I don't actually mine if they're over $200. If there's anything thats like 2.4 Ghz or something it'd be great.

The e6600 [2.4] is currently about $380 Can. and it is said will drop to $224 US which should translate to under $300 Can.
The sweetspot for a budget builder should be one of the overclocked lower CPUs but everyone has their own needs.

I have to see how much I can over clock it using the stock fan and heatsink, etc... I'm going to buy the processor when the price drop occurs... hopefully, it'll be good.

Bump... sorry for doing this...

I bought the processor for about $300 (and it comes with supreme commander which I might be able to sell off) the Intel C2D E6600 from NCIX

I'm going to work my way out from there. I have my eyes set on the Seagate 500MB NCQ HDs... Could anybody tell me anything about the SATA port multipliers and... how to use them and such?

Also, is it worth spending money on 8000/8500 RAM or would 6400 do?

Why do you need a SATA port multiplier? Most motherboards come with a good number of SATA ports (6 or 8 nowadays).

If you aren't going to overclock at all, then stick with the normal speed memory (higher speed stuff is wasted since you wouldn't be using the extra speed at all). If you are planning on overclocking, the memory will be very important in which case I'd suggest a lot of research into which kind would work best (ie look at CPU reviews on the net where they overclock the E6600 and see what RAM they use, or RAM reviews, forum posts, etc).

Can't help on the SATA, but from what I've read the 6400 RAM is what you need and anything more doesn't provide any benefit (well, marginal benefit, nothing you will notice).

And apparently Supreme Commander is a game that actually uses multiple cores. link

I Most likely won't be overclocking it so I guess using the 6400 will do just fine (thinking probably 2GB total). and I guess also I don't need port multiplier since there's at last like 4 SATA ports or so and I only have 2 drives.

And I don't think I'm going to be playing Supreme Commander (not my type of game)

From what I understand, somebody correct me, but when figuring out what memory you need, you double the FSB of your processer. The e6400 is 266, so all you need is 5300 at 667mhz. This will even allow you to raise your front side bus to 333mhz. The 6600 has a multiplier of 9, so this will raise your clock speed from 2.4 to 9 x 333= 3GHz without adding anything but CPU cooler.

Having said all that most reviews do use DDR2 6400 at 800mhz or DDR 2 800 and all my knowledge comes from reading, not practicle experience. Anybody know why the faster memory, other than they get their memory free?

Here's one review.
