I think it is important to say that I completely applaud Dave for the team he has built. His franchise should be the envy of all that play this game. He took a team with a few assets and developed a very solid club in most departments in a relatively short period of time.

I can remember having many chats with Dave when he first started in this league, he has spent a large amount of time evaluating the league, the sim and his club. What he has built is far from easy. He actively persues trades and while I may not always agree with the way he does things, there is no doubt in my mind that he plays the game with intent and purpose.

I think its easy to accumulate younger players and build. First, its easier to accept losing "...Hey, I'm building I shouldn't win these games" Second, Winning is nothing but a bonus: " Cool I beat the Panthers, the team is coming together" Third, young players with potential are worth less than established players with talent so its easier to get two decent prospects for one good player. Its tougher to accumulate 4 good prospects to turn into 2 good players. Young players develop into established players - established players get old and lose value. Dave (and Becky to a lesser extent) have taken it one step beyond and built a team which is strong in both talent and depth. Kudos to him.

I get the feeling that some GM's are pretty tight when it comes to their teams. Dave and others would trade their mother without thinking twice.

I have said it before, when I started in the CPHL I guarded every asset. It landed me in last place. The most fun and fastest way to better your team is to trade. Yes you will make bad deals but you will make more and more good deals.

The average life span of a GM of this league cant be more than one season. If something isn't working then change it up.

One other thing. Some GM's seem to think the only way to build is with youth. Sure we would all like that stud prospect to develop but there are an overabundance of solid vets available more readily.

Ok well this thread got out of hand. Its a shame that we couldn't have an intelligent discussion about what could be used to without it getting out of hand.

So my primary message is to the two GMs who had a problem with each other today (you know who you are). I don't even know what you want me to do about it so I'm not going to do anything about it. Deal with each other as adults and work it out. It's a problem between you two and I have no interest in mediating. If its worked out already great. If not - work it out.

Any further suggestions about how the league can be improved can be emailed to the league.
