Your situation a one off. I highly doubt Seegeewhy is calling anyone a cracker eater. Calling a white person a "cracker" is a rasict term that is quite old. I'm surprised you've heard it before. Perhaps you should watch a Chris Rock standup routine.

I took offense to the comment. I just didnt want to post about it in here, as it would derail the original topic of this thread. The majority of the people in the bar are white, but I think Calgary still has a white majority. I know many people that still go there (of all races). I myself prefer the Roadhouse if I'm looking to go out and party for the night.
Cowboys I used to like, but then they raised their coverprice to $10 one time i was there (which I thought of as rediculous). Then I went over the the coatcheck which is $3, and that night I happened to be wearing a light hoodie and a fleece combo. the girl behind the counter told me that this would be TWO items, I asked her if she could just put it on one hanger and she said she couldnt. so it cost me $16 just to get into the bar!
Roadhouse and many other bars here in Calgary still only charge $5 to get in, and $2 for coat check. Most will even let you take your friends coat and yours and combine them for only one coat check.
However I have had many a one night stands from Cowboys and it still is a good place to go. Me and my friends were talking one night on how it seems to be all of the people who couldnt get into other bars that night though.

It's a well known fact that Cowboys discriminates at the door. Global TV did an "expose" on all the Vicker's bars awhile ago. It's still on YouTube if you didn't catch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plQpLPy1eao
Anyways, I think the comment was just a joke. These things don't translate so well through the internet sometimes.

That video says at the end the only bar (of six) that didn't discriminate at the door was Cowboys.

And the anecdotal evidence within this thread proves otherwise.

Anyway, let's get back to all that great reminiscing about one night stands and alcohol-induced memory loss, shall we?

If you search I think you will find a pretty heated discussion of those news stories.

I used to dread going to that stupid bar when there was a show I wanted to see. The place was full of meatheads and whores with attitudes.
Good f'ing riddance, hope they take their time opening up the new bar.

To all who were offended by my comment - my apologies.
I just have a short temper for establishments that discriminate based on race, hence my "cracker" comments.
I am a young white male and have no issue getting into the place if need be, but I have had many friends turned away from Vickers establishments because they could be grouped into the "potential gang member" demographic (i.e. - young brown, black or asian male). I don't tolerate it and its the reason that Cowboys does not receive my business.
Yes, the comments are slanderous, so I apologize for that. I just find it dispicable that such discrimination can occur and so many Calgarians can be willing to turn the other way.

I relived my glorious youth in Cowboys when Loverboy was in town a couple of years ago. Good show, but LOUD. My ears rang for a couple of days. I found the surgically-enhanced scenery to be, well, interesting, but I must admit I prefer my women to not look like they should be swinging on a pole.
I'm pretty sure my friends dragged me there the night of my stag...not sure though.

Cowboys was the second place i went out on my first ever night in Calgary. The first was just a few drinks in the Palliser as i had to change some currency. As we walked in past the huge line-up i had no idea what to expect, i was thinking club type place. My now wife was an Outrider at the time so all the people are talking to her and already knew of me through her so that was great. I don't think i payed for my first 5 drinks because people kept buying for me. I met some drunk guys who kept telling me i was "so london" and heaping praise on me. Then some girl tried to eat my face style kiss me and later on grabbed the ol' crown jewels with a little too much passion. I ended up getting hammered, learning how to dance to country music which i found so funny. I even got a shout out from the DJ which was nice. That was my first night in Calgary and i loved it. Went there a few more times while i was there and always liked the atmosphere apart from a few people who just didn't like the look of me or my accent and tried to provoke me into a fight. So anyway goodbye Cowboys, thanks for the goodtimes.
Where is the best place to go in Calgary these days? I used to go to Tantra and Mint which were really good when i was there. We used to start off in Lucky because my Wife's friend's boyfriend worked there and gave us free drinks all night, bonus! I used to live opposite a bar called Crush which looked pretty decent but was always empty, is the still there?

Broken City is probably the best night all around in terms of atmosphere, crowd, and music.

Definitely an interesting thread for me, as I have been a frequenter of Cowboys for ages now. And I think there is a lot of very good comments on this thread. The thing is, people go to bars for different reasons, and Cowboys does have its place. If you are 18 or 19, and want to go to a place where you can get blitzed where a lot of other University students are doing the same, then Cowboys is the spot. You don't go to Cowboys to pick up a classy lady.
Cowboys is also the spot where a lot of famous celebrities will go. I told Teemu Selanne he sucked for beating Calgary, met Kevin Costner, Tie Domi, Dion Phaneuf, and drank out of the Grey Cup.
I agree that there are places like Broken City, or Hi-Fi, which actually play good music and the crowd isn't there to get ripped. But you have to remember that each establishment has their place.
One other thing, out of the large nightclubs (Cowboys, Mynt, Tantra, Roadhouse, Whiskey, Coyotes, Back Alley, etc.) Cowboys has the fewest undercover cops on duty, because they have the fewest number of fights. I believe they have 2 cops, whereas some bars have up to 12. They were also the first ones to install metal detectors.

Interesting. I don't frequent the nightclub scene, but I would have put Cowboys in the top 3 as far as number of fights go (along with RoadHouse and Back Alley, or maybe Coyotes).
Where did you get this info (I find offbeat statistics like that kind of interesting)?

The General Manager was explaining to me how the undercover cop stuff works, because I also found the stat rather interesting.

I would bet Ranchman's has more fights than any of those places. I've never been to Ranchman's and not seen a fight.
