Consoles are nice because they are genreally plug and play, reliable, and easy to use. Well, except for the PS3.

Haha man, what kind of girls do you date? Girls arent looking to date James Bond. If some girl thought I was a loser because she saw me playing Madden or something Id probably laugh in her face and tell her to close the door on her way out. When I talked to my girl tonight, she told me next time Ive over there, to bring GTA San Andreas with me. idk maybe I just lucked out...

I wasn't trying to imply I'm James Bond or anything. But I'm a geek. I surf the Net to argue about Hockey and I play videogames. My wife accepts this. And my point was that if the guy's girlfriend doesn't mind him playing games, he won't suddenly become this social outcast she won't be caught dead with because he plays the Wii. His girl already doesn't think (or perhaps doesn't care) that he's a loser, so why sweat it?
Maybe Penny Arcade can explain it better. Let me see if I can find that strip.

They had demo's of the Wii at the West Edmonton Mall today, so I tried out the golf. I have to say it was a lot of fun. I don't care of the graphics are a bit childish and what not. Standing there and trying to get my swing just right and that was something way better than holding a controller and pressing a lot of buttons. I've had playstations and X-Boxes before but I think I'd get a Wii as my next system because it's just so different.

The wii is what it is, and thats a budget console. They lack 3rd party developers and have alot of work to do in order to get respect back but Nintendo is good at one thing and thats coming up with inventive new ideas. And it looks like it may keep them around for another console war but people that are serious about gaming go with the xbox 360 or ps3. And while i do think the Wii will keep Nintendo around for the next little while i dont think there gonna last in the console business. I wouldnt be suprised if they stayed in the handheld market.
Now i have tried a wii and it is interesting on first try, i enjoyed it for the hour i play but by no means would i purchase it. To me it felt gimmicky. Itll be interesting if it keeps interest in a few months.

Thanks for the pseudo-analysis BS, fanboy. Haven't you heard, Nintendo has been about to implode for 10+ years according to Sega, Sony, and now MS drones. Go enjoy your games.

I personally welcome the Wii and think it (in theory) should do better than the X-Box 360 and the PS3. It's based more towards family, and the average game player, not the hardcore, online, gotta-have-every accessory-to-my-system type. Plus it can play older games too, and nothing beats those old Super Nintendo games.... In my opinion people get too excited about the other two... I don't wanna play a game that takes weeks and weeks of my time to master and beat. I wanna be able to kick back and play a few rounds of a fun game. Simplicity is best.

Well they pretty much have imploded and that has lead them to back down from sony and xbox and try and get there money from another area. They crumbled the day Final Fantasy was available for a console other than Nintendo. As for the fanboy comment, enjoy your 64 megabyte games, Link awaits.

Nintendo will make more money on the Wii than both MS and Sony put together on their overpriced, overhyped consoles.
Nintendo sells very well in Japan and Europe, the NA market is the only one they haven't been able to dominate lately, but I think the Wii will outsell the PS3 and X360 as both of those bring nothing new to the table. Same games, just better graphics. Bleh. Also, the Wii will be a 2nd console for lots of gamers, unlike the PS or Xbox which are so similar.
Nintendo is not going anywhere for a while, they have been the most profitable console maker forever and with the Wii they will flat out make out like bandits.
BTW, I can't wait till my Wii arrives and I am not a gamer at all, I don't even play computer games. That's why the PS and X never even crossed my mind.

Nintendo is targeting a new market along with the traditional gaming market, which is a great strategy as evidenced by not only the sales and demand for the Wii but also the money printing machine known as the DS Lite. 3rd party developers will see that the Wii will give them access to a larger market and develop accordingly, the low cost of developing games for the Wii also gives smaller developers the ability to produce games that they could not for other systems. The fact that they actually make money on every sale, unlike Sony, gives them a great advantage as they would not be going bankrupt anytime soon.
Sony has really dug themselves a hole for the beginning of this next gen launch, they had very little supply for the console launch, they had a very high price for their console (the 60gb one, as the 20gb is basically useless in comparison), they had a very poor lineup of launch titles, negative PR over the handling of the launch of the PS3, and they basically ignored their PSP (which is not selling well in comparison to the DS). Microsoft smells blood and its Sony's blood.
As for hardcore gamers, I don't know who you are talking about as many welcome innovation into their gaming along with the retro nostalgia that the Virtual Console brings to the Wii in the form of some of their favourite games from the past (Golden Axe, Bonk, Bomberman, etc.). Those are the real hardcore gamers, the other people are just graphic whores.
And you wanna talk gimmicky, look at the PS3's SIXAXIS controller thing.

See.. I think Nintendo is smart right now. How many people out there want to play video games but don't want to shell out the big bucks for it? How many people have HDTVs in their homes right now?
Nintendo is taking a great approach. Change the way games are played rather than try to keep up with how games look and wait for the dust to settle in the HD wars. By the time Nintendo releases their next console they'll be in a position where HD is standard and can be obtained cheaply rather than pushing the limits with consoles that take a loss.
Sony takes a loss of $300 on each PS3 that is sold. They require gamers to buy something like 30 titles per system in order to make up for the losses since they own the rights to the disc manufacturing process.
Developers are all leaping at the opportunity to work with the Wii, and my understanding is that they are less than thrilled with the PS3. They love what the PS3 can do, but it's hard to work with.
Wii60 FTW

Well i would definately agree that Nintendo has a smart business sense, anyone that can re-package a gamecube with a motion sense controller and make money on each one is pretty smart. Id say most hardcore gamers that have a retro itch would just rely on there xbox home brew setup. Im not fond of ps3 myself but given time i could see them being dominant. The ps3 will still be a capable console in 4 years plus the fact it comes with a blu-ray player doesnt hurt, the Wii imo will be hit or miss and by that i dont just mean sales because its obvious theyll make money from the get go but in 4 years will it be in the closet with the gamecube.
In all of this one this i will definately credit Nintendo for is the quality of there products, they are put together extremly well and manage to last longer than most electronics, heck my old nes still works. I just have a hard time believing the appeal of the controller will last and that eventually it will be what it is a new gamecube with the old peter pan games. This is just my point of view, i understand it has a different appeal for many people so to each there own.

Wow. i had no idea the margin was that big, i know the 360 is losing on the console as well but i hear that by 2008 it will be all profit on the machines. Thats not including software sales etc, and i have to believe Halo 3 will have extreme sales to help them there. As for the Ps3 i guess there thinking is that if there console doesnt last till 2010 like they're hoping then they will have a pretty penny inthe bank.
As for the Wii60, that seems to be the choice of most, and i'd have to agree a 360 and a Wii for the same price of a Ps3 seems hard to beat. But i ask you this would you rather have a xbox 360 or a Wii? Seeing how price is pretty much even which you would personally choose?(assuming you purchase an additional Wii controller and the xbox is a core)

The thing with the Blu-Ray Player could potentially come back to bite them in the arse with the winner of the current format wars not yet known.
The 360 came out with their HD-DVD addon for their console too, so now it is just a slug fest between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. If Blu-Ray loses i can see PS3 sales lose alot of ground as they wouldn't be able to justify their high price anymore.

Who cares what Nintendo repackaged to make the Wii? It's about the fun factor and the Wii is just that and it's much cheaper than the PS3. Most people buying these don't care what processor it has etc, they just want a fun box for cheap. Neither MS or Sony can offer that.

I'd take the Wii. Two reasons; simple games that are actually fun and a better selection for kids. I guess I am just not that high on the remakes of the same first person shooter games that MS and Sony are trying to cash in on.

Ya i agree, i guess thats what is putting Sony in a pinch right now, if the market doesnt go their way then that woudl really put a hurt on there console. As for the media debate for hd-dvd and blu-ray that will be another one that will be interesting to see how it pans out.
Red, im just saying a certain audience dont care whats in it but alot of the consumers out there are upgrading from a past console and obvious specs play a part of that. No one wants to invest in something that will be swept under in a year. The fun factor is definately the selling point onthe Wii im just curious how its gonna hold up over time. Will it become tiring/old news or will Nintendo find a way to re-invent the wheel? As for the price i hear the Xbox core bundle is going to be dropping in price again putting it near the Wii in price range.
I hear that to play virtual console games you must also purchase an older classic controller is this true? Or can you use the Game cube controller?

Serious gamers are those nerds that spend more time tweaking their systems than actually playing them. Yup, real gamers.
