Why should I stop expecting the government to clear the roads? I pay taxes and I want my damn roads cleared!

I know that the city simply doesn't have the manpower to cleat all the roads hours after a big snowfall. But too many times do I drive on major roadways, days after a snowstrom and still the roads have no been plowed, sanded or salted.

As for snow in TO, although they might whine and call out the army on occasion, I've also driven on the Gardiner at the tail end of rush hour, in a half-frozen, greasy slop (and Torontonians would know about that greasy snow I'm talking about) that would send most Calgarians running for the hills, with no lane markings visible on a four lane stretch, at 110km/h, and somehow everyone made it where they were going.

I'd take just about any major TO highway over the Deerfoot any day...

And for the record, I like not having the residential streets plowed out here...I love doing a low speed rally drive into my driveway, and actually having a chance to feel how your vehicle responds under low-traction situations is invaluable when you are out on the "real roads"

That's ok, because I have no sympathy for your punishing property taxes. If everybody in the downtown core has to move out because their taxes are $1000/month, too bad. Especially the elderly. They should be studied to determine what nutrients we can extract from them anyways.

And you know, on a good day, I can get downtown in 12 minutes from Royal Oak.

And, I also used to live downtown.

At least where I worked, if they forced people to come in on this past weekend because of the storm, they would have been contending with a crew full of drunk alcoholics. Not people I want on the roads.

I don't think the citizens of this city really want to know, but it would make a nice front-page news story me thinks.

This is Calgary. There are no booneys. It takes me 20 minutes to drive downtown in the evenings and weekends and I live as far SW as you can get. The city approves development of these so called "booneys" but can not service them with what is required.

I have similar issues with police busting me in the "booneys" for jaywalking, rather than driving drunk home from the bar across a road that has no cross walk (because it is so new). Could they not be put better use than patrolling an area that has little to no traffic.
