Married a Saskatchewan girl so the Pil has found a special place in my heart. If not Pilsner then I twill dabble in the Bacardi-water-little splash of coke

Lethbridge booze prices aren't bad YET but they are gettin there as the nicer places are taking more business, short-pouring and charging more for a guy that goes to the bar once every 3 months I can handle it

It's expensive everywhere in Canada. Everytime I goto the States, I'm shocked by the cheap prices! It seems that most places just free pour there drinks aswell. I always make sure to stop @ Duty-Free and load up. I would say more than 1/2 off.
It's the damn "Sin taxes" I tell ya!

hear hear.

was in a high-class downtown hotel bar in LA, guzzling away, at slightly less than dive-bar canada prices. awesome.

the reason a 'bad' bottle of vodka is $18 and a decent one is $24 is because 80% of it is tax, where in the states in costco you can get a 60 of smirnoff for less than 10 bucks.

not a big beer fan, its a waste of time and money imo. sure ill have a rum and coke at a friends(these are usually free) but not enough to get drunk because you end up doing something stupid or dont remember what you did. there are other ways of enjoying life in my opinion. thats just my opinion tho.

well, if you've got the time and money to get serious, the fun period before the dark side gets a lot longer.

worth the investment!

Brew your own beer.....way cheaper and the quality is 10X better.

My last batch was a honey brown, and it worked out to about $0.45/500ml bottle. I get around 45-48 bottles per brew, so if you time it right you can always have beer in the fridge. It takes a while to do (the fermentation process takes a few weeks), but it's painfully easy and rewarding when you cack your first bottle.

This is another forum I post on from time to time:

http://www.homebrewtalk.com/index.php

Have a look at some of the contraptions the fanatics on that site are running.....

I'm sure yours is good though.
My dad tried making his own and it was terrible. But he swore it was way better than store bought beer.

I have yet found a home grown brew that I like. Not saying it isn't possible....but I haven't tasted one yet.

That's cool that it's still cheap at the Den.

I remember back in the day when Labatt Blue Jugs were $4.25 on Thursdays.
This was when it didn't look like a Moxies...

You are correct when you say a lot of homebrew is terrible.....reason being a lot of people that try it have no idea WTF they're doing. There are a number of things that a homebrewer can do to improve the taste however, the most important of which is sanitization. If you're careful with everything that touches your beer, you will cut down on bacteria, which once it gets in your fermenters creates the "skunk" taste. I also use the wort kits, so I'm not burning down my kitchen with bunsen burners boiling my ingredients, and all the hops etc are pre-mixed (kind of like a pre-made cake mix). It's actually quite easy to do.

I use bottled water, bleach on all my equipment, and I'm very careful that nothing touches my brew that hasn't been 100% sanitized. It's a long, tediuos process, but the beer you get is much "cleaner" and IMO better than what you buy in the store.

In 1965?

Beer was sure not .60 cents at the World Cup this summer. Prices in Germany and France were the same or higher than here.

Cocktails in Berlin are about $15 - $20.

1998... and it was mostly rural Eastern Germany and Hungary, not Berlin or anthing. Most of the pubs I went to were in people's basements and garages, and they had like 5 per block.

Sooo... in retrospect I'm sure there was no tax on the stuff, the places didn't seem that... regulated.

I could buy cans of Heineken on the street corner, in Athens, last year for a Euro a can. I spent a month there, damn near came home an alcoholic.

Yeah, everyone here thinks that beer is the only way to have fun and the only beverage to drink... Different strokes for different folks, I'm sure you've got entertainment choices the rest of us would scoff at.
