Personally I think the CFL is a joke. I don't need to explain my reasoning.
I love the NCAA because I went to a Pac 10 school in the states. People who don't like NCAA football probably didn't go to a school down here with a half descent football program.
I enjoy the NFL, but am not nearly as passionate about it as college football.
If the CFL were to fold, I don't think I could care any less.
And oh yeah, DUCKS SUCK!!! GO BEAVS!!!
|
so no reasoning then?...well if the nfl and ncaa stopped airing games in canada i wouldnt care, if the cfl folded(which wont happen) i would stop watching football(except maybe cis football) i dont know who the ducks or beavers are but beavs suck and ducks rock!

I watch both the CFL and NFL. Don't care at all about NCAA Football.
NFL I watch all the Colts' games as they are my team! (follow the rest of the league and only watch a games outside of Indy...unless playoffs which I watch all)
CFL I watch the majority of Eskimos' games as they are my team (don't watch too many games from other teams unless it's playoffs but I still follow the stats/standings, etc)
NCAA - (never)

I like the CFL game, but the league is so rinky dink. This owner is an idiot, that team folds ... and only eight teams. However I'll watch Calgary spanking Edmonton before I watch anything else.
|
Yep the CFL telecasts are so rinky dink it's funny but they go along with the product. Never-the-less I enjoy watching the Stamps. The NFL and my Cowboys are way above that and there are a lot of NFL games I will watch. The Irish in the NCAA also keep me interested.
I'm for sure
1. NFL
2. NCAA
3. CFL

USC/Cal kickoff is at 5PM on Saturday, the Pre-Game show coverage on ESPN radio begins at 7:30 AM all the way up to GameTime and then the post-game show for another couple of hours.
Pete Carrol is undefeated in November, let's hope the streak continues!!

Well, I used to HATE NCAA since I didn't really care what US College team won...and I didn't like the NFL at all either. I don't like the OT rule where only one team gets to have possession and if they score, the other team doesnt even get a chance. That would be like in the NHL if in a shootout, if the Oilers got to shoot first, and Hemsky scored, the other team wouldnt even get a chance to match it!
However, since moving to California and marrying a man obsessed with his conference (he's all for the SEC), college ball has grown on me...and the NFL and all its drama, glitz, and glory has made it interesting to watch. I still like the CFL better, but we don't get coverage..
So now its 1) NFL
2) NCAA
3 CFL

Nobody has put it down because it is Canadian, they put it down for lots of other reasons ... leading the bunch: bucause it lacks credibility.

Or because it just seems so damned backwater and circus-like.
In the time that Paul Tagliabue was NFL Commishioner, the CFL had NINE commishes. That's an indication of how much of a circus the CFL can be.
I've been waiting all day to see this Ohio State/Michigan game and I won't miss USC games. College football is so where it's at!

Huge TD, methodically worked UM's LB's and backfield.
OK Defense, pressure upfield.
Man, you just can get this level of excitement in a CFL game, or even NFL game.

BTW, the fact that you immediately leap to the assumption that people don't like the CFL 'because it is canadian' ... even after a long list of perfectly good reasons have been given, makes me think the only reason you like the CFL is because it's Canadian. Just a thought.

ok think what you want, i didnt say that you specifically were putting it down but i know many people who think of the cfl as second rate automatically becuase its not american. one of the reasons i started following the cfl is becuase it is canadian and it is easier to follow 8 teams then 32 and i only have to jump on the train to attend the game, plus i can actually go to the championship game, unlike the superbowl. those stamps teams of the late 90's were why i started watching football, i guess i jumped on the bandwagon and never got off(dont think i ever will). there are many reasons why i prefer the cfl, it being canadian is just one of them. the cfl had nine commishes in the time tagliubue was in office in the nfl and good for the nfl to have such a good commish(dont know if it was the owners actions or his actions, he could have been a figurehead, i dont know). the cfl was not making any money(as we know sports leagues dont get a heck of a lot of support in canada from people or the government) and they created american teams becuase that gave them the money to keep it going. i dont care how many commisioners a league has, especially when he has no power, the league was and still mostly is controlled by a few owners and hopefully the rules in the head office change so 3 owners cant vote and win being the minority on something, it is something they have to work on. its funny tho how we focus on the negatives. i mean look at the progress the league has made in the last 10 years. nearly bankrupt in 96. they prob didnt get any money from cbc to televise games, it wasnt advertised, poor television coverage lost alot of fans. every year since the tv ratings have gone up, aside from this year with the loss of a team and a schedule that was probably thrown together in about 2 weeks thanks to the ottawa issue. the league is as popular as ever, players are getting paid more, introduction of instant replay, enforce ment of the salary cap for the first time, it is being televised across the globe and there are finally stabe owners in all 8 cities among other things. what do we focus on? refs(they make mistakes like in other leagues, they get paid less tho), a comish that didnt get his contract renewed, ricky williams being allowed to play in the league. i guess its what we do, we have more to talk about when something is bad then good. just like how we see more posts and threads on CP when the flames arent doing well as compared to when they are.back water and circus like? i would say progressive, improving and exciting, and yes you can get an exciting game in any of the 3 leagues, it happens. it all depends on what you like to watch.

I agree with a few of your points, but I wouldn't simply gloss people comaring the leagus as focusing on the negatives of the CFL. The fact is, there are ALOT of negatives in the CFL, and it takes away from the enjoyment of the game.
Your right, the league is in <marginally> better shape than the mid 90's when it almost went under. But big deal, you can't call off of the floor, it better be in a better situation. To get a full appreciation of some of the points people are making, save a few bucks and next fall, travel to Denver, Columbus, Knoxville, Kansas City, Baton Rough or New Orleans. My guess is that if you go to a NFL or NCAA game there you will think quite differently about the CFL.
Oh and the other thing is the low level of knowledge by the fans in the CFL drives me nuts. Note to CFL fans: Shut up when we have the ball. I've been at two games at McMahon, including a Labour day game where the fans played a big hand in helping the opposition win by making noise when we have the ball.
When you compare CFL vs NFL vs NCAA the CFL has glaring warts that the others don't have.

fair enough, i guess we arent really arguing over the game itself then? i mean going to an nfl game or an ncaa game would be a different experience. the fans in the states are way more hardcore about thier sports its more about the gameday then the game itself down there it seems. as you say, some cfl fans arent that knowledgeable about football, were a hockey country, people dont follow the cfl as closely as hockey. calgary isnt the greatest sports city on earth, ive lived here all my life and i wish it was different. we are more of a white collar city and more business types live here then other places. take saskatchewan, im sure if you went to a labour day game out there or in hamilton you would feel different about the fans and most likely have a better time, but its better in calgary then in toronto, they dont have anywhere to tailgate around there stadium! the ncaa is well run but they dont have to worry about gate to pay thier players, the nfl is a very well run league no doubt. you could prob tell me alot of problems the cfl has that may be new to me becuase i just want to enjoy the games, not worry about the fan support in ottawa or whether or not a comish has control over certain owners. the cfl does have a better playoff system then ncaa in my opinion and the superbowl isnt as exciting as its hyped up to be as well as the average fan cant just buy a ticket, they have to know somebody or enter a bazillion contests. we always tend to compare ourselves to the americans becuase they are our big neigbor and they seem to have alot of control on what we do. the cfl is the one thing that isnt affected by the nfl but instead of appreciating what we have we look south. the cfl wouldnt have grown the way it has in the last 10 years if everyone just focused on the nfl in 97, it would have folded, just like when the flames were run like a circus and had many many warts back in the late 90s and the loyal fans stuck by thier team, if every one had given up and watched the oil, we would be watching the oilers vs the houston flames. the fans, marketing, money and hype may not even be comparable due to the society and economics of canada and the states, but the bang for the buck, talent and actual onfield entertainment is the only thing that is....end rant

Ya, I like the NFL game itself better as well, it is more complicated, strategy is a bigger component and the athleticism is unreal.

CFL is a terrible (PASS, PASS PUNT, PASS, PASS, PUNT, PASS, FUMBLE, PUNT, RUN PASS PUNT, 1 POINT SCORE, PASS, PASS, TD)
I love the 1 point score, that is awesome, LOL HOW GAY
What a sorry version of the best game on the planet.

I don;t like the CFL because its doesnt have the most talented and best players in the world
If our league contained the best, I'd watch the best.
That's my opinion, not anyone elses. I hate the CFL and hope the league folds. I know it never will completely, but it may end up being the WCFL one day. Western Canadian Football League, when teams fold out east.
8 or 9 (depending on if it's Ottawa's folding season or not) teams and 6 make the playoffs. Thats crap right there. Lets make 20 of the 30 teams in the NHL make the playoffs if we use that logic.
12 out of 32 in the NFL, you have to be a good football team to make the playoffs and not a mediocore team.
If you like the CFL more power to you, but when you start to diss on my favorite league the NFL saying it sucks, I will fight back stating why I hate the CFL. Most people that hate the NFL, don't really give it a chance. Like in any other league there will always be boring teams or boring games.
Ask anyone thats not a Calgary Flames fan, and they will tell you they can't stand watching our style of hockey. But we love it as long as we're winning.

Did anyone see that the Lions were running around with a broken Grey Cup? Can anyone thing of another league that has a cup that would break during its celebration.
Once angain, more proof the CFL is a rinky-dink league.
