That lightning show out West was quite spectacular right around 11pm last night!

Damn people who go 70-80 in rain.

It was a bit of both. There were some ridiculously cautious drivers even after the rain had slowed down considerably (we're talking going 55-60)

There was a stretch for about 10 minutes or so when it was brutal. It looked like the world was ending. Huge hail, a torrential downpour (you couldn't see more than 5 feet ahead of you i'd say). It was standstill traffic on the highway and the shoulder.

After that it wasn't too bad. I'm not sure how it compared to the storm that Calgary got in the afternoon yesterday.

I too went out for a good chase yesterday. My chase started at around 1:30 and I headed out near airdrie and and chased until around 3:30. Just as things were getting interesting I had to shut er down and get home. I got some great pics and will try post them later if I can.

Im not sure if people heard but there was an apparently big funnel cloud in a storm just east of the city in Langdon last night. And, again apparently, I missed it by just 20 minutes. Before I left to chase it I took a couple picks of the storm from my condo.

On the off chance that anyone is interested I thought Id post it here. I took 2 pics and spliced them together, the crazy/amazing part is that the pic on the left was taken just 8 seconds after the pic on the right. It is incredible how much that storm grew in just 8 seconds. Note that you can see the same plane twice.

EDIT: Whoa, that was way too big. Here is a thumbnail and a link to the full sized pic.

Yeah that was nuts. I took some video of that funnel cloud from my back deck. It was pretty close to town!

Neat to watch but a little scary to consider what could happen if it had touched down.

I guess since we lack any trailer parks out here in Langdon it decided to leave us alone.

last year when the US was getting pounded by those consecutive record breaking hurricanes, i was thankful to live in a place where as bad as the weather might be, at least it's not trying to kill you. but the past few weeks have had me rethinking that. the weather seems to be taunting us lately with these massive storms in very short bursts, like a good ol mother nature mind****

Looks like it will be another wild night north of Calgary. There are tornado watches from Airdrie to Innisfail to Sundre.

Yeah, Red Deer was lucky the core of that storm just passed south of it. Looks pretty nasty. Well, look out north, you can see it from here.
