Did they give you an actual quote for an actual (basement sized) job, or did someone just say $.50 over the phone? What I have heard previously is that the cost of professionally installed sprayfoam is typically around $3.00 per sqft for 2 inch coverage. As you go to greater thicknesses, the incremental cost gets cheaper.

For the DIY Touch and Seal product, I have heard a price of about $1.00 per sqft per inch if you go for the larger kits.

$600 for that Dow DIY does seem rather expensive ($3.00 / sqft / inch)?

Be careful! There are 2 types of foam, one type is a closed cell which acts as a vapor barrier and one is an open cell which still needs a vapor barrier. The cheaper one would be the open cell. I believe the new national building code has included some products such as rigid insulation (styrospan) vapor impermeable. FYI you are now allowed to insulate and drywall without the vapor barrier if you use vapor impermeable paint

Using IcyneneŽ soft foam insulation and air barrier system is one of the best ways to improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort. As a complete insulation and air barrier, Icynene minimizes air leakage in the building structure, which allows for HVAC equipment rightsizing. This saves dramatically on initial equipment costs and ongoing utility costs - Icynene can save up to 50% every month in energy costs versus traditional energy options.
