Man that's rough for the Sabres. They don't get their guy, and now the rest of the league knows what pieces they were willing to give up.

Brutal for them.

Parayko is willing to consider other cities... just not Buffalo.

Whoever leaked that deal is looking bad. And Parayko should have ill feelings that he was put in that position openly.

So now that Buffalo isn't an awful team I wonder what the factors are.
- Buffalo itself
- History of losing, not erased still
- Or how they treated Eichel.

I wonder how much that last one is a factor. Players talk.

Probably treatment and investment in the team itself.

Facilities, food, hotels, etc.

It's all Pegula.

Nevertheless, Buffalo already has an excellent top four. They didn't need Parayko at all and especially not if it meant giving up their only notable D prospect in Mrtka. This is a quality save for them, IMO.

Buffalo is still a dump. One of the worst cities I've been in, if not the worst.

I just think it takes a long time to recover from lengthy bad reputation. Nothing Buffalo can do about not being a non popular location re: city of choice. So they need to overcome that with people feeling positive about the organization and direction on the ice.

People are likely nervous about waiving for a less than desirable location, without more traction / proof that Buffalo is going to be a perennial playoff contender.

Parayko would have connections to current and former Sabres players, including those in the Tage Thompson/ROR trade from years back. No doubt got some insight on the Sabres organization

Interesting. Wonder what it was about Buffalo he didn't like. Assuming the makeup of their roster. There's been reports about various d-men not being 100% happy there.

Detroit is a wasteland. Edmonton is a waste of land.

Just from the city perspective, not many people wants to live there

You can only go to Niagara Falls so many times

Fair enough. I've never been to Buffalo but have been to St. Louis. St. Louis was very grimy in large parts. However, it also had a friendly vibe in a lot of places, with a Southern type charm. There seemed to be a focus on community and culture there, even though it wasn't the most affluent city. St. Louis is also a much bigger city and somewhat rapidly growing, as opposed to Buffalo standoffish stagnation.

I guess Buffalo is more like Detroit and St. Louis more like Chicago?

I've been to both, I prefer Buffalo. But I also lived in Edmonton and didn't just visit.

Regardless, makes you wonder if Buffalo would have been interested in Weegar if this deal was rejected earlier.
