So its a quote from years later? at the time he would have done 8 IMO, especially if Brad paid up. Like brad would hold players feet to the fire for 100k or an extra year but wouldn't lock this down?
Also, Tkachuk said he wanted to re-sign during his exit interveiw after the Dallas series if we are going by his "word"

Treliving needs to pursue a career at Sportsnet. His "in on everything" schtick would fit in wonderfully there.

Worst of all, it seems he doesn't learn from his mistakes as he's basically repeated all the same mistakes with the Leafs blowing picks and prospects on depth players while letting Marner (I realize he inherited that issue but he had two years to be proactive) walk for nothing. He's going to leave the Leafs in a situation somewhat similar to the Flames. In shambles.

The wizard was always a piece or two short, bad goalie then bad coaches, the extra pieces he brought in to fill the team were always terrible or useless, Hamonic, Brouwer, Neal, endless number of useless spared dmen and 4th liners. Then he ran out of time when the core left he cause he ####ed them so bad on contract when he had a chance.

It's a quote from right after he was traded, repeating supposedly the discussion he had at the time. If anything, he was exaggerating his willingness to extend long term IMO, to make himself look good.

The good: initial RFA signings
The bad: trades (especially picks for depth D)
The ugly: UFA signings, cap management, coaching hires

Which team has offered their RFAs a bridge contract if they are not in cap trouble? Generally, all great RFAs are signed for the full term. You can pin this one on the GM and not the player.

I'm not saying Treliving shouldn't have offered a longer term. I think it would have been rejected in favour of a shorter term and higher money. Treliving overestimated Tkachuk's desire to stay and thought he'd still be around after the shorter contract (which everyone here thought was perfectly OK at the time).
And frankly, I don't believe anything out of Tkachuk about his intentions back then anyway. He loved the talks with Fla in his RFA neg period.

A. I never make stuff up and say it's a fact. Tell even one time I did. Show your work.
B. I just looked it up and I was a little wrong - he didn't say 5-6-7, he said 6-7-8. Which I take with a huge grain of salt. It'd be the lowest number, if that, when he's spinning post trade. And he claimed he was told a shorter deal was to "keep the team together" which he "wasn't too happy with".
Then he plays hero and talks about how he did the best for Calgary (except extending of course).

You just state things as fact - As you did here that:

But its more that you rag on others for "making stuff up"
I'm glad we could get the correct Fact out - That MT would have signed a 6-8 year deal vs the 5 you claimed.
See how easy it is for someone to misremember. They aren't always making something up.
Maybe this will help you to not be so sure of yourself all the time!

I don't call out people for making mistakes - I might point them out. But many are clearly making things up. You can't seem to discern the difference.
