If Nonis and Maloney are truly anti-rebuild then they don’t have much sway in the management decisions…

What was accomplished by Maloney being cagey about Conroy being extended? Did they just not want to do a press conference where he would have to answer some questions while the team was in the basement? He said he had a multi year plan... It shouldn't be that hard to comment on where things are at (even if Maloney made it look really hard).

Brad Pascall is one to watch... his name comes up every now and again for other GM jobs.

Happy they have extended Conroy, would love to hear from him regarding what the plan is for this team, hopefully we can all move forward from this.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would be upset with the extension of all 4. There's a lot more to management than making hockey trades. I mean bad interview aside, we don't really know what are the responsibilities of each in the front office.

My lithmus test for this management group would be at this year's trade deadline.

If what the rumours say are true, and all major decisions have to go through Murray Edwards anyways, it begs the question on why a poho is even needed in this org. Especially given the fact you already have Conny with 3 assistant GMs, a VP of hockey operations, and Iggy as an advisor (I assume this is in essence the same role as an assistant GM?).

I'm fine with Conroy and Pascall.

Nonis, not a big fan. But Maloney is just a dinosaur and was terrible when he was a GM. I don't agree with extending him at all, but maybe that's my anger from last week still talking.

Things have become pretty sour on here lately.. People, this is the same management group that made the Lindholm trade, the Hanifin trade, the same group that has been consistently (without a biased opinion) knocking it out of the park with drafting..

Look at what they have done in the past two years. The boat was sinking with little to nothing to look forward too. Now, at this very moment, the flames boast one of the deepest prospect pools league wide. The Flames haven't chased crazy contracts in free agency nor spent all of their assets in meaningless trades. They are righting the ship and doing so just as many people have asked for... They are prioritizing drafting and taking the proper approach to building a team. This approach is unlike the iterations of the teams that we have seen in the past. Actions speak louder than words folks, no matter what Maloney says, every move this team has made speaks volumes towards its direction. They don't have the horses to compete, they are thus rebuilding.

Let Conroy cook and have some faith. No reason to be negative simply to rag on the team.

Edwards doesn’t seem to run his other businesses as terribly as he does the Flames. Clearly he’s a man that knows business but he’s just so detached from the common person and sports fans in particular. He kind of has some traits in common with Elon Musk. As with Elon, he thinks he knows what’s best for an audience that he cannot relate with or understand. It wasn’t long ago he was trotting out Bean to alienate fans, now it’s Maloney. He’s simply clueless.

BAD Maloney interview, unforced error. Response? Doubling down in the 2-part Francis interview and talk down to the fans.

Fan uneasiness about this whole sequence and Conroy without a contract. Response? Announce the whole leadership group is re-signed, which in itself is a misread, but then also lie that everyone was signed before the season, despite Maloney interview with Francis suggesting otherwise?

A little bit of honesty would be oh so refreshing.
I was assured by a bunch of posters including CPs own Lionel Hutz, Esq that what the team says doesn’t matter, only their actions.

This team really should try being honest with their messaging to the fans.

It's 100% a symptom of the fact the Flames are awful this year and therefore not worth talking about. Just wait until we are still in the basement 3 years from now. This is just the beginning of the never ending complaints.

Camera or not, I have lost confidence in him.
out of sight out of mind.

TBH I never had much confidence in him. Thought he was a bad GM and was Gretzky's agent so he had the Wayner stink on him.

I think he knows we have to rebiggle, just can't message properly.

As long as Conroy has the main say, I’m ok with people around him giving their thoughts. When Conroy was hired, he said he likes to have a more collaborative approach to get all viewpoints and have more info for a decision. As long as this is still true and Conroy has the final say, then I’m ok with his team also being re-signed.

Looking at the wording of the release, maybe they had all of the negotiation and terms finalized but the actual contracts hadn’t yet been signed? Only thing that makes any lick of sense.

Lol came to read unhappy comments and leaving satisfied.

I am guessing that Maloney and Nonis both might have a lot of value to the organization due to their relatively long tenures in the NHL, and especially among the NHL executive vets still in the game (which there are many). Maybe it's a bit of what Burke had stressed about before and giving the Flames that presence/respectability, etc. after the organization's reputation was run into the gutter by Feaster. I dunno, just a guess. Maloney clearly isn't good at messaging to the public, so it'll be interesting to see if they continue to push him out there to provide updates or if they saw the fire it created and will muzzle him a bit going forward.

Just dumb.
Ultimately I'm just happy he signed.
But this team is just awful at PR. REALLY bad.
Who does the PR now? Wasn't it that one fella, who was promoted to AGM or something like that last year/year before? Who did they backfill him with? Maybe his absence is what's happening here?

I don't buy it. I really don't. It doesn't matter at this point, it's done, but what a silly, needless PR disaster this has been.
You are spot on.

This management team isn't even on the same page... let alone this level of secret extensions being signed.

To play Devil's advocate, he wasn't a terrible GM, he was working with a cap floor team that was cutting corners everywhere. He was essentially bargain shopping from day 1. That was one of the reasons the Flames liked Treliving, because they thought he'd do great with a bigger budget team.

Also we don't know what his input is like on trades, or the draft. Maybe he's a good negotiator when it comes to contracts, maybe he has a bunch of connections around the league, so it's easier to know who's available. My point is that we don't know what he brings to the table. The owners, and GM do.

Not policing it but the insults (clown, etc) for Maloney seems a little over the top. We don't really have any evidence that he's a problem other than his ass kicking PR skills

This isn't a big deal to me ... glad Conroy is back. If I hear Maloney is an actual problem and not just the terrible fan connection device I'll certainly change my opinion quickly.

But this team has to get better at managing their communication with fans.

Why extend the whole group in September, not tell us about it, and then walk it out after the PR face plant over the last week? Just chaos.

Glad the do is still fine, even if the say is a complete nightmare.
