I will say for Calgary, April while not being the worst overall month, is the least aesthetically pleasing month of the year. Everything is brown and grey. Ice banks thawing into slush, mud, with brown grass peeking out. Roads covered with gravel and sand makes for dusty and generally unpleasant outdoor scenery around the city.
Plus, your car is always caked in the brown dirt film, and there's never a point to getting it washed, because it's just a brown mess again by the time you drive home from the car wash.

I'd probably say September. You'd think fall would start right? You'd be wrong, instead it's as hot as if not worse than August
This has been discussed in other threads but seasonal depression is a thing and the fall is most prominent beginning in September so for most people with seasonal disorders, the fall months are the worst. I've kind of struggled with that myself over my lifetime and can say that this September was one of the best in recent memory. The fantastic weather kind of alleviated the depression for a lot of the month. You people complaining it was too hot make me laugh as you are all so soft. We live in one of the coldest major cities in the world and you all wouldn't cut it in 98% of the rest of the world's major cities.

Sir your assumptions are incorrect. I don’t live in Calgary and I chuckle at the complaints about this "winter" I keep hearing about.
For those saying November, how can you go outside today in the nice warm sun and say this is worse than the Feb/Mar period?

Holidays are over and the longing for spring/summer kicks in.
This is the logic I use for March being the answer to this question.
This year for example, based on the long-range forecast, it's going to be mild through at least November 20 - so by January I'm not really going to be fed up of winter yet. We'll get the typical 2 week brutal cold snap usually between mid-December and end of February, then March hits... the month with the most snow on average. March is the point that I'm completely fed up with winter.

February/March have more daylight hours. March Madness. Spring training. NHL playoff push. Mardi Gras. First Day of Spring. Sometimes Easter is in March. Spring Break. Good skiing. Family Day. Black History Month. Return of DST.
Not even close.

And the smell. All the puddles and snow rot. I'll admit I don't mind it because the smell means spring is coming, but it's a bad smell.

I, for one, look forward to Black History Month all year long.
