That’s fair but the summer he was traded here and before he signed it that was a fair market value for a guy who had scored the 4th most points in the league over the previous 4 seasons and matched the 115pts Gaudreau had who was just offered a $10.5M deal.

Lose your best 2 players and enter the season with the new guys also pending UFA’s that would not be a situation the team wanted to do. Once they made that trade they were forced to sign those players in my opinion especially Huberdeau who was the centerpiece of the deal.

There were many posters here who said "sure he's a good player, but it's a bad trade if you don't sign Huberdeau long term".
