How did Minny manage Buium into nhl action?
Probably with a lot less ####ing around and hesitance, I imagine.
Im not sure Huska is the guy for the job the more we see, going back to last spring when Parekh and Suniev were sent over. Whatever he is looking for as far as fitting into his mediocre sysyem, its not worth the potential damage he's inflicting to get it. The whole team sucks anyways.

I'd say the FLAMES haven't played well... Parekh has played better than 3/4 on the team which is saying something.
They have not given him anywhere CLOSE to the same thing as Schaefer of Buium, not even close.
Schaefer - 22:21 min / avg - 3:28 avg PP1 time per game - 8 PTS with 4 on the PP
Buium - 19:37 min / avg - 3:08 avg PP1 time per game - 8 pts with 5 on the PP
Parekh - 15:53 min / avg - 1:42 avg PP2 time per game - 1 pt
Schaefer has played primarily with Romanov and Mayfield
Buium started with Bogosion and has transitioned to both veteran D man Spurgeon and 2 way D Jiricek
Buium has been burned defensively just as much as Parekh, but offensively his team is a lot better than CGY playing on a stacked PP1 unit.
How is that even remotely close?
|
You are 100% correct. This team is babying him in a losing season. This is idiotic. Huska has lost that room and will further if he gets sent down.

I don't think it is a coincidence that he was scratched after game 9. That doesn't make it a foregone conclusion that they will send him down, but I do think they wanted to time to really take a sober look at the situation right now.

They could be screwing him up by keeping him in the NHL just to get pummeled and give the puck away more than 10% of the time he is on the ice.
I think about when Tkachuk made the team, they said that if he were to make the team, it would have to be in a top 6 role and they weren't going to keep him up just to play limited minutes. Parekh should be treated the same way. He's a thoroughbred, and if he is unable to run right now, he should play somewhere where he can. If you play a prospect as 3rd/4th liner or a 6th/7th defensemen, you run the risk of developing them into one. The league is full of examples of players whose development stalls if they enter the NHL too early and hit a wall. Has an extra year of junior when the player isn't an over-ager yet, ever really hurt a prospect?
As for the comparisons someone made to Schaefer, it's just possible that the 1st OA pick from 2025 is a better overall player than the 9th OA pick from 2024.
I can see the case being made that at least in the NHL, they have total control over his development and what he works on whereas in junior, the coaches might not care as much about that. There are pros and cons to either choice, so I am not saying that junior is the more obvious choice, but I kind of lean that way at this point.

Correct.
But.
Huska is doing a fine job ruining things and that's a perfect timeline for a new a rena with a new group. Get a new building. Get a new coach. Get a new captain. Put an emphasis on players that will do whatever it takes to win. Stop handcuffing skilled players.

Sadly, I am not surprised with seeing any of these stats. In a losing tank season, we still won't even give Parekh a chance.
This is crazy, terrible coaching or management of the player or both.

Valid conclusion that requires no jumping: This organization is great at developing prospects until it comes time to playing them in the NHL. Going back to previous regimes they butcher that stage of development.
Honzek is the only guy Huska has handled reasonably well and that's because he's played him consistently in a spot and in situations where he can succeed and allowed him to work at it.
Which is the same logic that should be applied to zary and parekh but isn't.

Parekh has a 58 xGF%. Like what else can this kid do?
What is this organization even doing here? It's hard to commit my interest to this team when we can't even commit to letting the 32nd place team allow it's young players to go through some growing pains.
Just absolutely embarrassing stuff.

And why does Zary get popcorn duty again. We lost, sit someone else who’s not producing. What does Huska want to see in him when he’s been playing him on the 4th line like Coronato has had too at times this season. Seems like a weird way to treat your top young talent especially when pretty much the entire team has been dog crap so far.

By the same thing, I was referring to pairing him with an experienced defensive defenseman.
But with respect to getting 22 minutes a night, Parekh has not shown he could handle that. He's drowning in the 14 minutes he's getting, it would be foolish to up his.icetime.by 50%

Is there such a thing as a sports fan Karen? If there isn't, there should be.

He's drowning? Really?
He's not playing as bad as Weegar or Andersson. How can you say he is drowning when he gets only a few shifts a period, and almost no pp time.

He's getting lots of PP time, and is looking better and better on the PP.
But 5 on 5 he has struggled. Which is fine, and no surprise. And I am confident he will continue to improve.
But pretending he has been great, and deserves 22 minutes a night already, is just foolhardy

He has struggled 5 on 5?
CF%: 59.55%
GF%: 60.00%
SCF%: 60.95%
xGF%: 57.96%
HDCF%: 54.05%

But he has not struggled 5v5, he has been the best Flames dman by every advanced stat shot metric.
Stop defending this team, it is ridiculous.

In some ways no, but in some ways he hasn't been better. The bar should be set higher than playing like garbage regardless.
If Parekh was a veteran, then I could see why comparing him to Weegar and Andersson makes sense, but this kid is our best prospect and shouldn't be handled the same way a veteran is. His development is more important than what he can contribute now. Patience is key. Sending him down wouldn't be a punishment for playing bad, just an acknowledgement that he isn't ready.

I couldn't care less what those stats say. He has been behind the play a lot, and is physically outmatched a lot.

And there is zero benefit to sending him down, he already dominates that league. We can't send him to the AHL.
Sending him down just ruins a year of development.
