Taking a while to get to 5000
|
That would be awesome but he has to be feeling enormous pressure. Not a strong preseason showing, his troubles from last year, hearing I'm sure that the Flames are still in the market for a backup etc.

There should've been when the waiver wire was loaded with capable options on sunday.
Was CC off having a leisure day or what? Friedman was confused why he didnt do it then.
Regardless, wishing the best for Cooley.

If the flames can hang with the Canucks tonight and put up a competitive game this road trip will be a huge success

I see a divisional game as a 4 point game. At least against EDM, VAN, VGK, and LAK. I think that Wolf should start all the games against those 4 teams as long as the Flames have any playoff aspirations.

To me, if the Flames are serious about the playoffs (which they are), you play Wolf tonight and Cooley on Saturday.
Divisional games have more on the line. Go Wolf back-to-back, it's also a test to see how he handles that. You then give him the weekend off and roll Cooley against the Blues if you need to.

I doubt we are playing Cooley at our home opener. Either he plays today or he doesn't play until Utah next week.

The skaters can do it. So can Wolf. Rest him when he needs it.

Run Wolf again, Get Zayne in for his first game, move Honzek in for Kirkland or Lomberg

Haha, yeah that's a clear choice and my bad.
Cooley's first game? Vegas or Utah next week?

Yep, I'd do it for Lombo.
I also really want to see Weegar - Parekh get cycles.
I'm really hoping Gridin has another strong night tonight. Force Conroy's hand to make a trade (Andersson+Coleman?) because once Huby and Pospisil come back we have a big ol log jam, and I'm just hoping to see Gridin make it impossible for him to come out of the line-up.

Don't give Van a free win for their home opener by playing Cooley. Start Wolf and make them work for it. If we keep beating these teams maybe the league will stop trying to feed us to them at the start of every season.

Nah they will always start us against divisional rivals. Just play to win.

Yeah Lomberg's gotta come out of the lineup and become a regular press box guy. He's had marginal NHL hockey skills his whole career and they're only going to get worse.
Need more hockey skill on the bottom line. Just the way it is.

You could see the early season in a few players -- Backlund, for example, who had a great game, had a tiredness brain fart in overtime where he shifted towards the attacking zone when the Oilers had loose puck possession, letting McDavid skate right by him to create a 2 on 1. That's not a mistake a mid-season Backlund makes very often.
Early season is different and needs to be handled differently. This is going to be a pretty tough game, and hopefully they can ride the adrenaline of that win in front of the back-up goalie.

This is silly. Wolf was huffing and puffing immediately after an extended period of possession in the zone by the opponent
Like every goalie
If you play in net, you get it
And I’ll just say this. Wolf is 24, in great shape. Guys like Kipper played over 70 games and the position hasn’t changed that much.
Too much moneyball nonsense, I don’t think you should manage an elite goalie based on statistics derived from a large set of mostly average goalies

Lomberg is fast and effective . Good teammate, good leader, great energy
And he can Michigan, I’ve seen it
The kids will get their chances
The Leafs suck

Regarding the 'Michigan'. Good for him.
And yes Lomberg's fast, has great energy, great team guy, and seems like a genuinely good human being, but his non-pugilistic hockey skills, especially puck skills (michigan thing aside) fall woefully short compared to the average NHL player.
Need to do better. Nothing personal.

I kind feel like no, if you're serious about the playoffs on game 2 on the back end of a back-to-back you play your back up and see what he's made out of. We're not going anywhere without a backup eating 20-25 games for Wolf. If Cooley falters early (which you can only find out with some games) then you go and get another goalie. Don't wait and ride Wolf for the first half of the season which could lead to injury and reduced quality starts, and sewer your playoff hopes.
Unless Flames are already looking for a replacement...
