I wonder if Gridin is a Kuznetsov fan. I could see WSH winning the cup being a big deal for a 12-year-old.

There's three games this week. He might miss one or two and still play this week.

I am less concerned about Parekh. My expectation is that he should be on track for ~42 games this season. When I look at the opening schedule and start picking games, I would likely think this for deploying Parekh:
Oilers - Sit
Canucks - In
Blues - In
VGK - Sit
Mammoth - In
VGK - Sit
Jets (home) - In
Canadiens - In
Jets (road) - Sit
Rangers - In
Leafs - Sit
Sens - In
The fans that are setting expectations as Parekh having a "82 game Calder trophy season" need to dial it back a bit. Hutson is 2 full years older than Parekh and did his rookie season at 20 instead of 19 (at 19, Hutson played 2 games).
Looking at the lineup, I am more concerned about Andersson's deployment. If he gets deployed with Bahl in the same shutdown role as last season where he is primarily playing with Backlund's line... that is not going to help him put up points or change the narrative of last season.

Next challenge:
He'll need to keep the momentum up and continue his fine play to stay up.
Make it impossible for CC to send you down, Matvei! Huby and Marty will be back soon. Your spot is only valid that long unless you really prove you belong.
Better start dialing CC. Time to make room for this kid! I think he is going to do it.

Gridin is often compared to the Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov, who also left Russia for the USHL at 16.
"I can see it; my path has been similar to Svechnikov’s, but when people ask me who I resemble the most, I always name Evgeny Kuznetsov. He is my favorite player. I think we have similarities in terms of hockey IQ and skating. He’s not the player he once was, but he is still very skilled. I fell in love with his game when I was about five. When I lived in Khabarovsk, Kuznetsov played for the Traktor, and I even have a photo of us together. He was my idol. There was also Datsyuk, who I was fond of.
“My top 3 favorite players are Nikita Kucherov, Connor McDavid, and Nathan MacKinnon. Their skills are on a different level. Kucherov is different from Mac. He has a gift, I don’t know how it’s possible to play like Nikita.”

I hope Gridin really does well, and forces Huska to play him, which will force Conroy to make a move.
Flames have more forwards coming this year too - Honzek, Kerins, Morton, King, and Stromgren should all be seeing some ice this year. Suniev's skill was undeniable in the preseason, but looked just a bit off and I think needs AHL time. However, if he is doing great halfway through the season, he should get a look too.
Flames have too many forwards this year. They need to thin it. Easier said than done, I realize, but the Flames should be prioritizing development here, just like they did with Monahan and Gaudreau.

These kids were just drafted and have made the team. That's amazing, and something to be very proud of. Probably worthy of its own thread. This should be discussed.

I'm not convinced he's a Flame beyond 9 games. If he proves me wrong, great.

He can go to the AHL and back to the NHL as much as they like...no 9 game worries for him
