I think Cooley's their guy.
Tempting as Daws or DiPietro might be.

Thrun is a weird one. Point per game in college and strong AHL stats, but can't get the trust of his coaches in the NHL. Maybe he likes going to the library.

So the Flames still need to make a roster move regardless and we didn't waive Miromanov or Kirkland today.
So as it stands the options are Parekh back to junior, Gridin assigned to the AHL, or Huberdeau on IR. If we're claiming a goalie here then we need 2 of those moves since we can't waive a player in time.
Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Wolf may play all 3 games to start. It's the beginning of the season.

Given that they just missed by a shootout goal/save, that could be a mistake.
Being able to wring points out of games the backup starts will be crucial.
Cooley doesnt look ready to backstop an AHL team let alone an NHL one. Familiarity or whatever just isnt enough to justify going ride or die with this guy.
Unless the goal is McKenna. Then ok.

Or just get a competent backup you arent afraid to play so you dont have to overwork your starter right off the bat and risk him pulling something.

I sure hope that has nothing to do with the decision making. If that's what they're worried about then we have problems.
As it stands Gridin is going to end up in the AHL to make room for this team to carry Miromanov. Now, they could put Huby on IR to make room, but I don't get why they wouldn't waive Miromanov just to give themselves some options.
They've talked about how they will take the 23 best players and they just aren't doing that. Gridin, Wolf and Frost were the 3 best and most consistent players in this training camp and Gridin is likely AHL bound. Now, that I don't have a problem with. Having Gridin get some experience at the AHL level is something I can get behind. What I can't get behind is keeping someone like Miromanov on the roster, someone who fell out of the lineup after Christmas last season, someone who was absolutely awful in training camp, and someone who is going to be off this roster in a years time so that they could waive and lose Solovyov. They drafted, and developed the kid. Solovyov even showed flashes in training camp. Why wouldn't you want to see what you have there?
The lack of consistency with their "philosophy" is what I have a problem with. For a team that say's they're getting younger, they let the younger player get away to keep a worse "vet" on the roster who is going to be off this roster, and likely out of the NHL, in a years time.

Doubtful
He’s going to be off this team at the end of this season if not sooner

Matej Blumel or Kaliev might be worth a look. Blumel fills the net at the AHL level. Hasn't had many NHL games yet.

I remember Huska saying something about Miromanov being injured. If that’s the case, do we need to do anything?

I wouldn't bother with any of those goalies to be honest. If I had to take one, I'd go with Daws I guess. I am not sure he would be an immediate upgrade over anyone we already have, but he is young enough that there might be some untapped potential there.

If the rumours are true about the Flames being linked to Dipietro a few months ago, then one would have to imagine they have interest today.

I just wanted to throw Matej Blumel's name out there. He has the potential to be a steal of a pickup. 39 goals 72 points in 67 AHL games last year, and he's good defensively. He's also not small either and can win puck battles. IMO didn't look out of place for BOS in preseason.
He did just turn 25, and he is a left shot right wing, which we have several of, but his NHLe was 43 last year. He is definitely going to get claimed by someone.

I'm a big Heinola fan and would love to see the Flames give him a chance. He can't be any worse than Miromanov or Bean, and this is the first season where's he's not injured at the start of it
He'd likely already be an NHL defenseman if the Jets didn't have a strong preference for big, physical defensemen on their bottom pairing
