Agreed, as far as the pro prospects in our system, I think the timeline to be ready is:
Ready this season:
-Parekh
-Brz
-Kerins
-Morton
-Kuznetsov
-Soloyov
Ready next season:
-Gridin
-Suniev
Ready the following season:
-Basha
Unknown:
-Honzek
-King
-Morin
Disagree on Basha. He’s gonna need to have a seriously good year this year with a big leap in development if he wants to make the NHL. Planning to slot him in 2027/28 means you have 2 more draft classes joining the prospect pool plus whatever the Flames bring in for a trade or two (re: Andersson).
IMO next year Basha needs to make a splash at camp. Same as Honzek. He’s smelling like a bust to me at this stage. These guys need to come into camp and rip it up. They can’t be mediocre and expect to make the NHL with the Flames prospect depth.

Basha is 19 years of age and hasn’t played one game in the ahl yet maybe give him more than a year or 2 from his draft year.

This is where fans go wrong IMO.
We all want these kids to come in and “rip it up” during camp but fail to realize that it’s flat out really difficult to do. Matthew Tkachuk for example had just three points during his first two preseasons.. but that didn’t mean he wasn’t ready. We need to exercise a degree of patience and understand that it’s a learning process. Was Honzek a bust after being a top three preseason scorer last year? No. Is he a bust now? No. He has shown enough to still be in the main group while in the midst of a very competitive camp. We tend to overlook the little details of the game that matter most and come to conclusions over flashy plays and production.. but that’s not what makes someone stick in this league. Give these kids some leeway. They are not elite talents and shouldn’t be judged as such. The road doesn’t end for these guys at 19, 20, 21 years old.

One guy who I thought looked good in the prospect’s games that didn’t really get much of a look was Bell. Big guy, physical and quite fast for his size.
