It sucks that they are missing Barkov for that long, but this is still a very, very good and deep roster. Barkov has missed plenty of games over the years and they've been able to sustain success without him. Chicago will get a pick somewhere in the mid to late 20's.
|
Florida had 2 more points than the Flames last year. Now they're missing $20M worth of players for at least half the season. Meanwhile, the short summers tend to add up, and take their toll on the players. Moreover, Bob and Marchand are 37, and Ekblad is off PEDs.
Maybe I overvalue the impact Barkov, and Tkachuk had, so I see the Panthers fighting for a wildcard spot for a majority of the season. I have them picking in the 12-20 range which is not quite a high pick, but is much better/higher than pick #32.

I'd send them Huby 50% retained if they'd take it.

Barkov missed 15 games last year
Tkachuk missed 30 games
Ekblad missed 26 games
Marchand missed 11 games
Game 1 of the playoffs was the first time they had their entire lineup dressed at the same time. People talking about them only having two more points than Calgary as if they were 100% healthy all season lol.

For a chance the flames 1st round draft picks in 2026 and 2027 becomes a lottery pick.

Uh, the entire point is that it looks like they are even less healthy this season

Here's the split last year:
w. Barkov 40W-24L-3OTL, .619pt%, 208GF, 174GA, +34, 3.1GF/GP, 2.6GA/GP
w.o. Barkov 7W-7L-1OTL, .500pt%, 38GF, 49GA, -11, 2.5GF/GP, 3.3GA/GP
It seems like losing 0.6 goals a game, while getting scored on 0.7 goals a game more makes quite the difference. They still comfortably made the playoffs, but they also struggled without Barkov, and were lucky he was out for only 15 games.

For those 15 games, what were the quality of opponents, road or home, were other key players out for the same games, etc? Lots of factors to consider.

The difference is they know Barkov is out for the year and Chucky is out for a few months, so they can plan ahead of time by bringing in a player or two. Not nearly the quality of what they've lost, but reasonable replacements.
Besides, their young players got a lot of experience from the cup run, and will be able to play more quality minutes than they could last year.

What are they trading to bring those players in? They're critically short of draft picks and their farm system is depleted.

And lack cap space...nobody is saying they are now the Sharks but playoffs won't be a cake walk IMO. They could very well be on the bubble, heck mid 90s in points is the bubble these days, as anyone here should know. These are also pre-season injuries, they will still likely have players go down durning the season which will test depth even more. Bennett usually misses 10-20

Oct 12-26
* No Tkachuk
@BUF 5-2 L
@BOS 4-3 W
@CBJ 4-3 W
VAN 3-2 OTL
VGK 4-3 OTW
* Tkachuk returns
MIN 5-1 L
@NYR 3-1 W
@NYI 6-3 W
Dec 12-16
@CGY 3-0 L
@EDM 6-5 W
APR 2-6
* No Tkachuk, no Ekblad until the end of regular season.
* With Marchand, Jones post TD and Marchand's injury
@TOR 3-2 L
@OTT 3-0 L
* No Bennett, No Reinhart
@DET 2-1 L
Apr 12
BUF 3-2 SOW
Apr 15
* Bennett returns
TBL 5-1 L
I'd argue that it's about average strength of schedule. The injuries/pre-playoff scratches do coincide in a lot of those games. All in all Tkachuk played in 5 of those 15GP. Ekblad 10/15, Bennett 13/15, Reinhart 12/15, Marchand 5/15, Jones 5/15.

If they get 100+ points without Barkov and Tkachuk half the year I will tip my cap...I do think some of you Panthers fans are in denial though this is a MAJOR loss.
I don't think they are done by any means but they will be in a fight to make the playoffs. If they do and Barkov comes back that would be something...Leafs win the division and Panthers are the WC team lol.

Florida could be fine as long as he can play the final rounds of playoffs. Team Finland not so much.

First half of the season is usually more or less dead when it comes to trades, it might be really difficult for them to find someone at this point in the season.
