Kerins is coming along fine, he just seems like a late bloomer. After being demoted to the ECHL, he was a PPG player down there. Then he became a PPG player in his 2nd AHL season earning an NHL call up. Next season he will have an opportunity to make the team out of camp or at least earn more call ups.

It's encouraging that he has shown progression at every level from junior right up to the AHL, but it's not like he has been languishing. The farm system seems to be working as intended.

That's also how I see his development path.

Slow start then steady improvement to the point of being a top producer at each level he's been at.

Sure, he's becoming an older prospect now, but it's not like he's plateaued or regressed. He's just a late bloomer who's had to overcome some challenges around size and skating. The talent is there, though.

From what the coaches said this year, conditioning has been an issue with Kerins over the years, but he made huge strides last summer. I hope he's having another productive summer right now, because he looked a tad chubby in a few interviews he did this season. All he needs is to get in premium shape, and I think his skating will follow.
