Battaglia was the biggest riser from the 2024 group after Parekh.

It's going to be interesting to see where all the Basha votes go in round 8.
Looks like it could be a three horse race (Mews / Morin / Battaglia)

I think a disproportionate amount will go to Battaglia , opening up another fascinating 3 way vote I think with 1F v 2D , I don't think its out of line to suspect he could jump up and snag the 8th slot

It doesn't mean he brings nothing else to the table, and I think we can all agree that Pospisil has a lot of elements to his game that aren't on the scoresheet, but Honzek was drafted to be a top 6 offensively talented player who was good in his own zone. The last part might still be true, but the first part is definitely questionable.
I'm still in wait and see mode on Honzek and I like what I see in moments here and there, but I really have no clue what kind of player he will be at this point.
|
I wasn't suggesting that Honzek is Pospisil (or Zary), just illustrating that NHLe often drops significantly for 20 year olds that hit the A. And both Zary and Pospisil have at least met, if not exceeded expectations to this point, despite that drop.
In other words, the drop in NHLe was completely irrelevant. Again, I think the tool set is the more important thing.

I think I'm annoyed by the ranking more than I think it's an actual bad look. My annoyance has come from the fact that nobody has really made a compelling argument yet as to why we shouldn't be concerned about his progress or his production.
And again, this is in comparison to a prospect base that has been significantly added to since he was drafted. I'm just saying that if we compare him to some of these other guys, it doesn't make sense to have him that high in the rankings.
but this information would probably have been better to have YESTERDAY! *Adam Sandler voice*
Sorry for the disruption, carry on. Battaglia looks great, just needs to work on his skating. I have really turned around on him as I didn't think much of the pick when he was drafted, but this last year was a big one for him.
|
For me it was the fact Honzek has NHL calibre skating as proven by his 5 game stint with the Flames and IIHF games. To match that he was an NHL frame that will only get stronger as he approaches his physical peak. In with that he's shown flashes of puck on a rope stick handling. The dream is he can put all three together.
He is the last forward on the list who has proven he can skate well at a pro level.

Morin for me, I really think we have a player there and have wanted to select him sooner if not for all the forward talent we have amassed… what a problem to have

Some of us aren't.
I'd be higher on Basha if he wasn't losing a lot of development time to injury, and on Battaglia if he had better skating. I voted for Suniev because I think his skills are translatable to the NHL and he hasn't shown a weakness big enough to stop him all by itself.

Went Keirns.
Have always had a good gut feeling about him since the Flames drafted him. Has been able to find a way to put the puck in the net ever since. He’s definitely older than many on the list but feel he’s an injury away from getting into the NHL lineup regularly and continuing that scoring prowess which will keep him there. Every game I’ve seen him play for the Wranglers he is extremely noticeable. Always in a dangerous spot in the offensive end and the puck generally finds him.
