Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, this is the first contract in his career with an AAV above league minimum.

Hanley owes Weegar big time...and hopefully for Weegar's sake, Hanley is deployed as an actual 6/7 dman next season instead of needing to be carried by Weegar in the top4

I also think people need to look more objectively at Poirier/Solo/Kuznetsov…they’re 23/24/23 yrs old respectively.

While it does sometimes take time for Dmen to develop, at what point are they tweeners at best, AHL Pros at worst (which ain’t all that bad)? I have hope for Kuznetsov to become a reliable bottom-pairing D, but neither Solo nor Poirier have rounded their games to a degree the Flames like as of yet (…particularly frustrating with Poirier because I’d like to see his offensive game at the NHL level…but injuries seem to have set him back…)

With other D prospects on the rise, Hanley is a good transitional player to help the young guys acclimate to the bigs. Hopefully after year two, his mentorship will no longer be needed. Another good piece of work by CC, IMO.

Perhaps a little unfair of me, but I wouldn’t mind if they just moved on from Bean.

I think most of us expected the Flames to sign a LD. I was hoping for an upgrade to Hanley, but he is okay as a 6 or 7 D.

I don't know if this was really necessary. This puts us at 7 D on one way deals, and we have several rookies knocking at thr door. But I guess we will see how the summer plays out.

To whoever called Bahls contract "New 3rd pairing money", I would just like to pointout that this is "3rd pairing money".

Meh whatever to this signing. He’s not particularly good nor bad, he’s just kind of there. This is a perfect signing if you are trying to build a team to barely miss the playoffs again.

I don't know if we necessarily needed him. Don't we have like 3 rookies right there that could play?

I don't have much 'hope' anymore for Poirier at least as a Flame- he's just been passed over I think Solo can still be a 6/7 and Kuz a 5-7. Weegar, Pachal and Hanley didn't first play 40 games til ages 23, 25 and 30 respectively

as for Brz/Parekh both need to play- alot- and I can't see that for both in the NHL , so its either Parekh NHL/Brz AHL or BrzNHL/Parekh CHL isn't it? at least to start

Really like this signing. Awesome mentor for the younger defencemen, popular and low-maintenance teammate, and easy to move at one of the next two deadlines if someone is looking for depth heading into the playoffs.

For me Hanley, Bean, Pachel are similar Ds who can play D with very small help with offence. Bahl too, but he is more physical than those. Miromanov has more offence minded but just average in D zone.
So if Andersson is traded we have only Weegar left. So I guess Parekh will stay with team. My hope Brzustewicz become next Andersson for us.
Also Solo needs to beat Hanley and Kuzi needs to beat Bean to stay.

'In A Great Spot'

“This city’s amazing, the organization is amazing and the people that are in the organization are amazing,” he said. “It was really an easy call for us, as far as we wanted to be back.

“The team, I think, is in a great spot. We just loved our time there, and I’m excited for my next few years with the team.”
Quote:
“I just know what it means to be a Calgary Flame, the fans are the best fans in the league,” said Hanley. “I’m just excited to run it back with all the guys; we have some unfinished business as far as making the playoffs and doing some damage from there.

“I’m just really excited to be back with the group and the organization.”
Some nice words from Joel

Solovyov has looked good every time he gets called up. He isn't flashy but his stint with Pachal last season looked solid.

Kuznetsov and Poirier have not seen NHL action but Kuznetsov has always been spoken off highly as a solid D prospect and Poirier had a healthy, full season with the Wranglers last year and led the D in points.

Either or both of these guys could be NHL players but we might never know if they never are given a spot because we keep looking for guys like Bean, Hanley, Barrie, etc.
