2025 Draft: Who SHOULD the Flames pick at 18

I think there is a solid chance that Bear does fall in this draft. If he does it’s because teams have seen the medicals, achillies injuries are really hard to come back from. It’s what derailed Peyton Krebs career.

Ok.. I think they will pick Reschny, but prefer Bear if he slips down to them at 18.

Odds are 100% they mention him the first time they talk about the #1 overall pick.

So, the order of scoring, measured by NHLe, is:
1. Kindel - 37.6
2. Reschny - 36.7
3. Bear - 36.3
4. Carbonneau - 33.4
5. Cootes - 26.0

And the order from youngest to oldest for the draft year, is:
1. Kindel - April 19
2. Reschny - Apr 6
3. Cootes - Feb 9
4. Carbonneau - Nov 25
5. Bear - Nov 5

Given how close the above is between Kindel and Reschny, I gave the edge to Reschny because of 1) the likelihood of playing center, 2) playoff scoring, 3) the Brayden Point factor.

From this list, if Carbonneau is available at 18, the Flames should draft Carbonneau, his stats don’t show it but he looks dynamic similar to a young Kuznetsov. The comparisons to Boeser, Meier and Batherson are inaccurate. He’s more a playmaker when you watch him but likely with his lesser team he was forced to shoot more, hence the higher goals scored. The problem is the Habs have the 2 picks back to back prior and they likely take him.

I see a lot of folks who have Reschny and Cootes as the consensus picks. Watching Reschny his game looks very comparable to a slightly lesser Ryan Nugent Hopkins while Cootes looks very much like a faster Vinny Trochek.
