That seems like way too much. If he plays a little more than half a season = $4 mil or so? Yikes. He doesn't need to be a points producer to be effective, but how can anyone know if he can play anymore? It has been 2 years and he is 37.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

When they're 37 and haven't played in two years?

So I guess rather than a conditioning stint in the AHL like Landeskog the Jets are confident a preseason will be enough?

Yeah… and this is the NHL… Toews isn’t kicking the door down any team he chooses here. Nobody knows if he can even play at that level anymore, as he hasn’t in 2 years…

"Toews' recovery included a trip to India where he underwent a five-week detox through a holistic form of alternative medicine known as Ayurveda that involved intense massages, induced vomiting, and enemas."
From my own experiences (my wife) with Long COVID, it's probably more the nervous system regulation work that comes from mindfulness and meditation and focus on his inner self that has helped him along with following a low histamine diet.

He likely would have ended up with the same result if he'd followed the diet and done a program like MBSR. All the benefits without the enemas..

I guess if Landeskog can make a comeback, this could work too.

Difference being Landeskog was around hockey the entire time. Physio, therapy, working out, rehab and skating non contact as soon he could

He's probably going to be useless. I predict he retires before the end of the season.

Edit, nevermind. I saw the salary... he'll hang in there even if he isn't playing much.

My theory that guys don't want to play for their hometown teams until they're washed up still going strong. You never get these reunions in a player's prime. It's when they're going for one final victory lap.

So how does that work towards the cap? Is it just 2 mill, what about the bonuses?

Any bonuses paid that put the team over the cap this season are applied to the cap the following year

The bonuses are applied at the end of the season. If they exceed the cap space the jets have, the overage is rolled over to the following season's salary cap.
