Wouldn't surprise me if Calgary 'somehow' did win (if within striking distance of the top pick), considering the marketing machine that the NHL could use with the opening and excitement of the Flames' new flagship arena and event centre, haha.

Throw in Makar signing with us that summer and it'll be one of the greatest off-seasons in franchise history.

That right there is all the proof you need to know the NHL lottery isn't fixed. Nobody outside of Edmonton wanted them to win that lottery. Certainly not the NHL who would have loved nothing more than him landing in a US market to add a big name to sell to US broadcasters.
