No, it clearly wasn’t good enough. But for some people, nothing is good enough.
That poster saying that “Calgary ****** over Calgary’s chances” is evidence of that.
They weren’t supposed to be here. They fought all year to get this close when everyone told them they weren’t good enough and when many fans just cheered for losses or for a better draft pick.
So to get this close and then for someone to say something like that really demonstrates to me how sometimes, it’s just never going to be enough.
This is sports. It ends in heartbreak virtually every year. The gift we were given was that we were able to watch a team care enough to be heartbroken in game 81 when this should have been over by Christmas.

If St. Louis had won 11 straight instead of 12, the Flames would still be in it. There's no shame at all in falling two points behind the hottest team in the league since the trade deadline.
But man, it's such a letdown to be eliminated from the playoffs on a night when you win.
By the way, I think these players showed that they deserved the faith Conroy showed by not trading anyone away at the deadline. This experience will be incredibly valuable for the young guys on the team. It's like rehearsing for the playoffs by playing a whole series of game 7's.

Also, sorry as I’m sure this has been discussed ad nauseam but if we won, does the Panther or Florida pick go to Montreal or does our 2026 slide to Montreal unprotected?

Either way. Flames having a -17 goal differential makes it incredibly challenging to qualify for the playoffs. Montreal might also get kicked out of their playoff spot within the next 48 hours with their -22 goal differential currently.

the two conferences had exactly equal points
the west had 3 bad teams but also, more good teams

There is nothing wrong with being disappointed. The game is played to win. That's why they play. That's why fans cheer. Winning is everything.

If the Flames win the draft lottery, Montreal gets the Panthers' pick this year. That's the only condition left to be determined out of that whole monstrosity of a trade.

Im so excited to not see the flames "nerds" on other social media sites blasting this team for playing well this season. Every time they do something well - its whine whine whine
I dont get it - if they make you that miserable watching them maybe its time to find a new team.

Proud season. Some vets rose up and some kids really shone brightly giving us a stable vision of the future of this team.
Am I disappointed from a draft nerd perspective? Yes. Chips fell where they fell and thats okay at the end of the day. And the Flames have plenty of bullets in the chamber to really swing on some picks.
Then you look at the cap space and the kids they have to sign. They may only be able to go out and get a good LHD and maybe swing on a big FA.
Flames are going to have to make a decision on RD as they have the future swinging an axe through the door in Parekh. Can't keep all of Andersson, Weegs and Pachal and Parekh. I suspect Anderssons on the way out.
All in all, those guys gave 110% for eachother this season. Came up short but gave the fans a glimmer of hope for the immediate future and beyond.
We really missed Zary IMO. I think the outcome may have been different if he didn't lose so much time.

Well they did the unexpected this te was bottom 5 and not expected to be here.
I guess his expectations was the Flames a playoff team which would go against most.
The worst case didn’t happen and we finished above the Devils.

Weeger with a great interview. Not the cliche answers and the usually softball questions from guys like Leslie he didn't give quite the answer they were all looking for.

The Blues win streak really came at the wrong time for us. It was just insane what we were trying to overcome with that happening.

Even though they missed , I think it was a great season. I had them pegged for bottom 5 . What flames lacked in talent they made up with heart.

Draft Pick
|
That third is what i was expecting to see this year.
Bit more open and D allowed to engage
"guessing" less points overall due to style but 100x more exciting hockey
hopefully next year they will trust the players to actually play rather than strangle the offence again. that was the most painful thing of the year
