A rare blown coverage when Barkov is on the ice. 5-2.

The lesson in this game? Do not take a penalty. the power plays are operating at 100% so far. Scary.
6-2 Panthers. Schmidt with a pair.

Marchand with the aggressive crease clear on Gourde.
The entire Panthers team: "I'm glad he's on our side..."

Marchand, Bennett and Chucky all on the same stacked team. Gonna be hard to beat.

That Chucky goal. How many players would have just flung that at the net.

The home town horn and red light guy were dying to give Tampa a goal. Clearly off the post, but the horn went off anyway...

Florida is absolutely stacked. Their team might be better on paper than last year.

Zito was very sneaky with his moves this year. Jones and Marchand were the big names, but Sturm is an underrated pick up. Schmidt, Greer, Nosek, Boqvist, and even Vanacek were good depth pick ups. It also helps that Samoskevich turned into a strong middle six winger as a rookie.

I fully expect the Lightning to come out flying in game 2. I also do NOT expect their goaltending to put up another .625 Sv%.
However, tonight the Panthers showed why they are the defending champs. Very strong game at both ends of the ice. Hard checking. Great effort. Sound defense. Lethal capitalization on chances. Bobrovsky didn't have to do much tonight, but we know he can. I just hope their legs don't give out due to the cup hangover.

I dunno. I'm not crazy about the player or that trade, but when I see him play he looks solid. He had to fill in down the stretch when they were missing a ton of players and were clearly not going all out to conserve energy, so I don't know what to make of those sort of stats over a stretch like that.
Looked decent enough tonight.

Tampa was actually playing really well going into the playoffs so this win by the Panthers is pretty impressive. Resting Tkachuk is really going to help them as my only reservation was that they hit the wall after being in the final in successive seasons.

They are when Ekblad comes back (one more game out with suspension). That will allow Jones to be slotted on the second pairing.

WTF.
Florida's pick is our pick. All year posters have been cheering for the Flames to lose, so that the Flames get a better pick. Now people won't even cheer against the Panthers for that same reason?

I agree with this in a sense, but I also don't mind Florida staying in so they can take out the Leafs or the Oilers (if needed).
I don't trust any other team (except maybe the Avalanche) to dismantle either of those teams.

Yeah the Leafs and Oilers not winning the cup is more important (to me at least) than moving back from 22 to the bottom of the first round.
