I feel like the Flames almost do worse against leaner lineups. It theoretically should help but you have kids full of piss and vinegar now.

Yeah on one hand that's a lot of talent not playing for Vegas. But a lot of guys vying for a chance to get into a playoff game if a teammate goes down. I expect they'll play hard and that it will be their trademark give up nothing style of game.

Imbalanced NHL scheduling actually makes it a bit hard to compare conference to conference and division to division in seasons where the three worst teams in the league (by a pretty fair margin) all play in the Western conference.

It's still super annoying that the Flames will have more points than 2 eastern playoff teams and probably will miss, but at least some of that is because the imbalanced schedule.

There are teams in each conference that you play well and others you don't - they swept NYR, NJD, NYI and PHI 2-0 each, so playing them more probably replaces CHI, SJS and NSH.

The difference in their schedule would be marginal, and the bottom line is that it took fewer points to make it in the east, especially the Met.

Also, the points for the two conferences, in total, were 1,422 to 1,421 so the east was not stronger. The west has a few weak teams, but also, more good teams

In one way it might be better if the guys who they're resting were in the line up and taking it extremely easy, because guys trying to prove they belong in the NHL will be competing hard. But if we can't beat their line-up full of tweeners, even when those guys are playing to prove something, then we don't deserve to be there.
