The slash was not intended for his teammate as it was kind of an unfortunate turn of events with him trying to serve a message to an opposing forward likely trying to get under his skin. Not a great play but it's not a lot different than players of the same team colliding on ice as just bad timing. I'm the furthest thing from a Markstrom (his series against the Oilers was one of the worst playoff performances in Flames history) defender but you have to be heavily biased against him to pin that loss on him.

Devils are dead men walking (or skating).
Hurricanes vs Devils is the classic matchup of built for playoffs vs not built for playoffs.
Waste of 8 days.

Goaltenders are a tight-knit group. And patient. This was payback by Markstrom against defenders as a whole for this hit.

Prior to Wolf, he was the best Flames goalie since Kipper. Think on that and weep.

Markstrom is so easy to rattle. If I was coaching against him I would tell my guys to give him little bumps and trash talk him the entire series. He is a spaz and can't hold it together. Very thin skin.

Markstrom especially yes. But really that whole Devils team is too easy to rattle.
Their defensemen, save for L. Hughes are not very mobile, and they're super suspect with the puck in their own end. So just put some semblance of hard forecheck pressue on them and they're liable to turn the puck over like pizzas brutally in front of their own net.
And most of their forwards who matter are physically soft as marshmallow. So if you play them with tight checking, they'll wilt like daisies.

Jesper Bratt scores four minutes into the game, 1-0 Devils!

The Devils continue with their 1-0 lead after twenty minutes. The shots are 9-6 in favour of the Devils. Good penalty killing by the Devils as the Hurricanes had two power plays.

Was he? He had one good season out of four. His aggregate sv% over his tenure here was .907
Here are some goalies post Kipper who had higher sv% over their tenures
Talbot, Rittich, Ramo, Smith, Elliott, Johnson
Ouch

Save percentages league-wide were declining after Markstrom signed with the Flames, largely because of rule changes.
How about you compare those goalies' sv% versus the league average in those seasons, and Markstrom's sv% versus the league average in the seasons when he was here?

Martinook's shorthanded goal in the second period is holding up as the Hurricanes lead 2-1 and are playing hang on. Andersen has made several great saves especially on the Devils power play opportunities.
