If he signs and reports, it burns the first year.

Wearing #36 per The Flames roster can’t remember the last time someone wore that number.

Looks like Zac Rinaldo wore it for his 23 games with the Flames... sorry, 28, he played 5 playoff games too.

A little under $200,000 for about 2 weeks of work isn't too bad.
According to PuckPedia, he also has an $80,000 performance bonus for this year and this year only. Considering the number of games left, I'm sure his agent wouldn't agree to that unless it was easily attainable. Like playing 1 game or something.

We have a GM that seems pretty good at trades AND has his fingers in identifying/drafting prospects. I like it.

It also gives me confidence that he came through the Penticton Vees - that's an elite program in the BCHL.

Suniev and Brzustewicz were both 3rd round picks in 2023 and I have high hopes both will be NHL players and some decent upside for both.

An eventual Suniev-Zary-Coronato line could be absolutely deadly in their prime

Interesting. Most of the Performance Bonuses that can be given to ELC players have minimums that would be impossible to achieve in 8 games.

He could be given a Games Played bonus, but there's still a limit on those too:
Quote:
Subject to the Entry Level compensation limits set forth in Section 9.3 above, for Skaters: (i) bonuses awarded for five (5) games played shall be limited to a maximum of $25,000 in the aggregate; and (ii) bonuses awarded for ten (10) or more games played are not limited as to the maximum amount of the bonus;
Maybe he'll get $25,000 if he plays in 5 games and the rest if he makes it to 10 games... which could only happen if they make the playoffs and he plays in multiple games.

I guess there's no harm in doing that this season. If they make the playoffs and he plays a big role, he gets a nice bonus. If they don't, he doesn't lose anything.

The goalie on Suniev’s team has a pretty interesting save percentage.

so far only one player drafted after 34OV in 2023 has played an NHL game so far, and none have scored. let's go Suniev!

The Flames wanted to take him at #48, but Etienne Morin was still on the board. They're lucky they got him at #80.

YES!!!! I have had a strong feeling that Suniev would become the best draft pick from 2023 since we drafted him. This is excellent news!

His release is something we haven’t seen since Iggy.
Hard to believe his shot is better than Coronato who already has a deadly shot.

This kid could be a sleeper for the Calder next year.

Something that grinds my gears....

Pat Steinberg - "Suniev might play for the Flames if they are out of it"

Why? Why is this such a Calgary Flames thing to do?

Gabe Perreault got signed a couple of days ago- he's making his debut tonight. The Rangers are 2 points out of it. He's playing on a line with Miller and Lafreniere.

They're both from the same draft year. Suniev is 6 months older and a bigger player than Perreault.

Like FFS- put your prospect in a position to succeed. This is a goal-starved team and the one thing this kid can do is put the puck in the net.
