I'm trying to buy Canadian as much as possible. Sometimes it's tough because a product might say made in Canada with Canadian made products on the box, but the parent company might be based in the U.S. I had this issue the other day when I wanted to buy some Quaker oatmeal. The store had a red maple leaf tag on the item as being Canadian, but when I scanned it with the app, the parent company came up as PepsiCo which is based in New York.

As much as I'd love to go 100% Canadian, we're trying for a 70/30 split (ideally 80/20) of Canadian or elsewhere vs. American goods. I think that' s a realistic goal. Thing that's tough is finding Canadian grooming products. I've managed to find local deodorant, soaps and beard products, but shaving stuff is difficult.

Quit shaving and buy one of those checked shirts.
I went into a small grocers that was claiming to be 100% Canadian and grabbed a bag of chips- it was American! They tasted terrible but I ate them because it was my fault for not looking.

The grooming products, and other stuff is a bit hard and expensive. I looked at the Beaver something toothpaste first of all it has some hippy branding they are pushing with no fluoride and stuff, and its expensive.
I have been using Native body wash for a while now and I like it a lot. I think Dove is owned by a British parent company but has plants in Canada.

Anyone know of a Canadian running shoe company?
I havent looked yet but I do need a new pair soon.
Or non-American at least.

Vessi. I don't know if they're any good though.

Was given pair of vessi to try. Wore them for 30 minutes before donating them to Good Neighbor. Flexy, minimalist shoes are not for everyone.
Walking/running shoes are a tough one. Even the fancy brands do collabs with Nike/Adidas. I think Maison Margiela might be one of the few that build their own in Belgium. Too much dog poop everywhere to be paying that much for shoes though.

Adidas and Puma are famously German companies, but I assume their factories are in Asia, like everyone else.
Most of the Canadian footwear brands I could find seem to specialize in winter boots.

I absolutely love vessi. They are perfect for traveling. I was able to walk through puddles in rainy Bogota without ever working about my feet getting wet.
They do take a week or two to wear in, though. Can be a little tight at first.

Huh, I thought adidas was owned by ABG. Wiki tells me they sold off a chunk of portfolio to ABG but the core of Adidas remains german.
I will go buy a pair tmrw.

Have you tried Hoka or OnCloud?
Hoka is French and OnCloud is Swiss. Both make super comfy running shoes.

Hoka is owned by Deckers Brands and they’re a California company.

Vessi's are waterproof and great for day to day walking, taking the dog out etc.
I don't think they have a true running shoe though.
On are Swiss and apparently excellent running shoes. I haven't tried them.

I swear by Mizunos for running - Japanese company but made in VietNam I think. They claim they are made "ethically".

Not sure if it's just me, but I will buy the product that makes the most sense for me to buy (value relative to price), regardless of where it is made. If there are two products similar enough in value, then I'll lean towards Canada. The reality is though, most things in Canada are more expensive thanks to the high tax rates that we pay...so it is often difficult to find good value in our products.
Also, there are many companies who employ many people whose job it is to import products from the US, so I am still supporting Canadians.

ASICS are my brand of choice and are Japanese. Incredible fit and a large variety of sports.
