I would have taken the NJD 1st straight up over this trade and then tried to use the 1st and 2nd at the draft when draft picks are more sought after to add to my roster

Cozens aint that good though, suspect that is what they discovered when they tried to move him.

Buffalo would have had to have added at least the 2nd round pick if they wanted Zary. Maybe a Zary for Cozens and a 2nd could have worked.

My initial reaction was that I wouldn't want to give up Zary... but for Cozens and a 2nd would start to change my mind.

I don't think Cozens is very good at all and I think the market showed that but I would have done Zary for him and a 2nd for sure. Probably would have considered even doing it straight up. But suspect Conroy dodged a bullet if the ask was Coronato +.

I mean Norris (at this point) is pretty much a better Zary but two more years developed. So Flames could have done something similar if they gave up Zary, but we didn't want to.
