Just because we signed 6 for Johnny or 3 for Matthew doesn’t meant that’s what Treliving wanted. It’s a negotiation and give and take. Both players got signed when camp started it was likely a compromise to get them to play games.
On another note Bahl is a RFA. Hes right in that Brodie/Andersson wheelhouse of a 6 year extension at a reasonable cost. Probably 5 plus.

Trade him.
He will be a little less than 3 months from 30 years old when this hypothetical extension would begin. Meanwhile, I highly doubt the Flames are going to be even close to being ready to compete on July 1, 2026. They have two good centre prospects currently: Luke Misa and Rory Kerins. But neither Misa nor Kerins is the level of prospect I mean when I say potential number 1 centre. Also, they are going to have only late 1sts in the 2025 draft. So, the earliest they will be in a good position to draft a potential number 1 centre is in the weeks before this extension would begin, at the 2026 draft. By the time this team is done its rebuild, Rasmus will be well into his 30s.

I say trade Anderson. Skewer the season( damned unlikely we make the playoffs with him) Get into 9 10 range use the extra draft capital to try and snag misa, not to mention the lottery chance; Projected anywhere from first to fifth. We have the capital to go after quality especially if we trade Anderson. Misa, frondell, mqueen, desnoyers all projected between 2 and ten. If the flames scouts really prefer one guy over another but i have Misa first overall. The guy does everything and i think is being underrated for some reason.

Sounds like you’re about to be disappointed.
With this interview, along with Conroy’s Dec 27 on Flames Talk where he stated ‘Rasmus is a Flame’ regarding the topic, I think we can put Andersson being traded this year to bed. Not only are we getting first hand comments from both parties stating an interest/want in staying, and I mentioned this yesterday in the trade thread, I’ve yet to see a single notable hockey insider or trade board say Andersson was on the block. In a list of 30 trade candidates from earlier this week Chris Johnston didn’t have Andersson listed, not even as a foot note. Aside from Dave Pagnotta, who I don’t believe is very credible, and some posters here on this forum, no one as far as I’m aware from the hockey world seemed to think Andersson was on the block or was anywhere close to being dealt.
Now, is it possible things don’t get worked out and he is dealt this offseason or next year, for sure. That seems like a possibility but I’d say it seems like both sides want to continue the relationship.

Unless Calgary gets into the bottom 10 teams and win the lottery, theyhave no chance of snagging Misa. No one is letting you take their top 3 or whatever pick with some additional late firsts.

Have seen Misa ranked anywhere from 1 to six so far. Shaefer, Martone and Hagens are taking a lot of top three’s.

Trade him in a package for Pettersson. Possibly give yourself a chance this season and get yourself a top line center for the next 8-10 years. Not sure the Canucks would do it but he is definitely a better option than any of the 2025 centers for the next 5-7 years outside of Misa.

Keep Andersson and in a few years we have this:
Weeger - Parekh
Bahl - Andersson
Morin - Mews
That's a fairly mobile defensive squad. Not sure about the physicality and toughness of Mews and Morin but it is a load of talent for sure.

Well using media sound bites probably isn’t the best indication of anything when it comes to players staying or leaving. What else are they going to say? Yeah we like Andersson but dear NHL he’s available and we don’t want him offer up your 2nd rounders. He’s also not going to say he wants out when he has 1.5 years left but does leave us with a it’s still a business.
You also don’t trade him for a Pettersson he’s a futures deal. This team isn’t competing the next 3-5 years. Those are building years we need the futures to add to that building.
What they do with Andersson will be pretty telling for me on how serious they are committed to building a winner or applying band aid solutions and selling us this as a rebuild.

Serious Lindstrom vibes. Big player with injury issues. We got told he was fine and he hasn’t played a game this year.
Would steer clear in the top 10 of a player like that. We already have a 1st rounder probably 2 years behind schedule because of injury issues.

If the Canucks trade Pettersson, I’d be a bit surprised if it wasn’t to Buffalo or Detroit for a fairly robust package of young players/prospects.
If I were in Alvin’s/Ruthford’s shoes, getting older, short of an elite talent coming back , is not even a consideration.
This could be similar to the second Hamilton trade, I think.

Ah yes good ole Treliving playing hardball in negotiations with our young superstars so he could blow money on July 1st for ageing veterans like Brouwer and Neal. Don’t even get me started on the Hamonic trade In Conroy I Trust!

Mqueen would have to see about injury derailing career but a 6.5 center who skates really well is always going to get interest. Frondell i have seen anywhere from four to ten.
