We're talking freshly drafted phaneuf, right?
Cause he fell off pretty hard after about year 3-4.

Florida's list was announced today. Quite a few familiar faces for Flames fans...
The schedule for releasing these doesn't seem to follow any logical pattern. It looks like the Flames' list will be announced next Saturday, January 11: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...teams-in-2025/

I'd have to think Conny would get the nod over Backs for the second team. In fact, knowing TSN, they'll probably just sort by stats and put Conny as the 1C on the first team.
Edit: I'm using "sort by stats" as a way of saying I expect them to put very little thought into teams outside of TOR and EDM. I don't actually know what the stats are if you sort all our Cs by points/goals/etc.

Longevity doesn't mean as much to me as winning.
Figuratively speaking, a 1C that plays here one year and wins the Cup has a greater impact on this franchise than a 1C that plays here 20 years without getting past the first round.
Monny is one of my all time favourite players, but if I was naming these teams, I'd have Conny on the first team and Monny on the second.
(I'm not dismissing longevity at all. Backlund has a huge presence in terms of the feel-good side of things, and that means a great deal. It just doesn't mean as much as actually winning.) (I mean, not that Conny actually won a Cup - but he at least won a Campbell lol.)

Since they're not breaking down by position, just 3 forwards - 2 defencemen - 1 goalie, I'm going to predict the Flames' first team will be...
Iginla, Gaudreau, Tkachuk
Giordano, Regehr
Kiprusoff
...and the second team will be...
Backlund, Lindholm, Tanguay
Andersson, Phaneuf
Markstrom
I could also see them putting Monahan in place of Lindholm or Backlund, Cammalleri in place of Tanguay, and Brodie as one of the second d-men.

Well, Backlund did get past the first round twice (3X if you count the play-in as a round). Conroy only did it once, albeit as long a run as you can get. And Backlund made the POs as a Flame one more time than Conroy. 45 PO games for Conroy, 42 for Backlund.

My full roster quarter century lineup for 2000-2025:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Iginla
Tkachuk - Yelle- Lindholm
Tanguay - Langkow- Cammalleri
Mangiapane - Kadri- Hudler
Pospisil
Regehr - Phaneuf
Giordano - Andersson
Brodie - Weegar
Zadorov - Hamilton
Kiprusoff
Vladar/Rittich
- didn't pick Wolf as he'll likely be in for the next quarter century. I really wished he'd come in next season instead of this season.
Looking back to now at the Flames, you can really see the weakness is down the center. No top line center that is a right-shot. And after Iggy left, there's no real top line right-shot right winger until Lindholm. These are the positions where the Flames need to draft or pickup from free agency.

Man I feel like we need to put a highlight package of Phaneuf! He was so exciting! His rookie season going against Crosby and Ovechkin for ROTY and was a legit contender. Somewhat under appreciated here because of how it ended.

Dion truly was a phenom in his early years. Enough so to cement his spot here IMO.
Can’t argue with any of these choices. Conroy maybe? But he was synonymous with Iggy for many years

It's crazy lol. I know media literacy is pretty much non-existent on social media but I didn't know actual literacy was this bad..
