Poirier is having a strong game tonight. Hope he re-establishes himself as one of the Flames top blue line prospects
I think he’d already be a Flame if he didn’t lose last season with that injury

I dont think i have anyone who just jumps off the page to me but the difference seems to be is the depth we have. Never in my time as a flame fans do i remember the sheer amount of legitimate prospects we have. By my count we have maybe five guys that could be called up. Stromgren, Honzek, Kerins, kuznetsov then bell or Aspirot and depending on what you think of Kirkland. That's just on the farm.
Suniev, basha, misa, battaglia, gridin, morin, multiple picks this year.
Just missing those elusive centers but might change my mind if Kerins is more than an AHL all star and if Honzek at center becomes a thing.
We have at least three picks in the first two rounds granting we dont add more.
My guess is 80 % chance Anderson get traded this year i expect a return of a first and a really good prospect. Adding another first this year and another prospect it starts to look fantastic.
I think if someone had come to conroy with a first and a yager, danielson type center the deal would already be done but aint no one giving up those centers.

He actually reminds me of a raw Getzlaff. His game right now reminds me of Getlaffs last WHL season

How many General Managers are pestering Conroy about his prospects? Not hearing much scuttle-butt.

Why would Conroy be looking to move any?

The Flames prospects to be excited about imo are
Forwards
Misa
Suniev (has size as well)
Gridin
Honzek (has size as well)
Battaglia
Maybe Basha
Defence
Parekh
Mews
Hunter

Think you may be a prophet on this one. In limited views he does have good speed, decent hands and appears to play with a solid pace. He seems to accept passes at speed with no issues and this is something that routinely separates good players from NHL level. Not sure about his processing when he is accepting a puck and this is what tends to separate nhl level guys from top six players. Only insiders would know how he is progressing in this respect, but regardless a line of Bell, Ciona and Pospisil would make a lot of teams want to be somewhere else on the night of a game.

I remember Huska saying that he expects Gridin to challenge for a spot on the team next season. That's high praise from him, as he didn't say that about many prospects (just Gridin and Parekh, IIRC).
Also, Solovyov needs a bit of love. Having a good season. I thought he was a bit raw last year in his showings at the NHL level, but overall, I really liked his game. He is having a good season down in the A, and I think we should probably see him up again towards the end of the season for an extended viewing. Good size and strength, good mobility, good defensively (outside of having a few hiccups now and then given his experience) and a passable (but hopefully improving) first pass. I think he will end up somewhere between a #4 (if things really pan out) down to a reliable bottom-pairing defencemen.

I agree, he really put in a ton of work in the off-season, and I thought he outperformed a few guys in camp that made the team. He'll be a fixture on the blueline sooner rather than later IMO.

What are some good example of that good first pass that distinguish them? What defenders really stand out with a lousy first pass?

Here's an article from 2021 that goes into detail about exactly that. It's far from a hollow statement to bolster otherwise unimpressive defenseman.

I assume none, because prospects are generally not moved unless they are traded for established veterans, which is something Calgary is unlikely to do.
Calgary also lacks many elite prospects which would catch the eye of opposing teams GM's.
What they lack in elite prospects they make up in depth, as they have many good prospects, they just need to hope some of them become NHL regulars down the road.
And with some good drafts coming up with multiple picks, their pool of prospects should only improve.
We just need some very high picks over the next 3 years to get some elite talent. Winning (and deservedly so) the long overdue lottery would certainly help.

6’1 is around average for height for forwards. If the Flames never took a 6’4 or taller forward again I would be fine with it. I am just glad the flames appear to be drafting skill again. Hunter Smith to this very day haunts me. Might be the worst pick I have ever seen the Flames make, all because he was big.

Thanks Burke. Followed that selection by picking Brandon Hickey 10 spots later. Tampa chooses Brayden Point 15 spots after that.

Possible... there's only so may spots/contracts to go around. That's what I was alluding to earlier: Are there any prospects other teams are interested in that don't necessarily fit in to the Flames plans? Say B-level prospects that can be thrown into deals?

Oh ya, that one is nightmare fuel. Lets also not forget about the year prior, perhaps where the 6'7" addiction began:
6'7" Kanzig @ 67th overall in 2013
Guentzel, Buchnevich, Verhaeghe, Duclair, & Bjorkstrand all taken among the 15 picks that followed.
6'7" Hunter Smith in 2014
6'7" Riley Bruce in 2015 (granted, atleast they waited till the 7th round)
