Guy is just a beauty, and the Flames did it right, all night.
What gets me for a sense of finality, is them putting up JG's opening lineup /goal profile picture shot there at the end on the jumbotron, from a few years back.

What a great game. Great game all around, really happy for the guys.
We had a pretty crazy moment for our family. During Johnny's video tribute a picture of my daughter at a game with a "Go Gaudreau Go GO GO GO" sign came on. We had no clue that picture was ever taken, it was from a game five years ago. My daughter still has the sign. Johnny was her favorite play ever so it was pretty darn special to her.

Intermission interview with Guy and Jane was a hard watch, Guy saying his brain doesn't really work broke my heart. But well done to the players and the organisation, I hope it helped the family find a bit of peace.

What an emotional night. It's so tough seeing his family and Monahan. I hope they can continue to heal.
I think what is lost as well is how much his other friends have been in mourning as well. We know Monny was close with Johnny, but seeing Rasmus and Backlund made me tear up. And you know there are countless others on the Blue Jackets and other teams, it is just tragic to lose someone so young.
Great ceremony and great night for the Flames organization and they handled it well.

Yep, undoubtedly very difficult for Johnny's former teammates. Probably hard for Tkachuk to focus tonight but he got two goals.
And if they win in regulation, it’ll be their 13th win

Seeing Meredith with the kids. This is a tough one.
Quote:
She has strength that is beyond understanding! She has carried this with such grace! Johnny is proud of her!
Quote:
For Johnny and Matthew. Forever.
Quote:
Was not expecting seeing Brad Larsen crying to get me so emotional. He was Johnny’s coach too, even if only for a short time
Quote:
i’m really thankful I don’t watch calgary much because every time I do I just envision johnny flying around in that red jersey and I get sad.
Quote:
Please don't EVER drink and drive, this is some ####ing bull####. I couldn't hold it in anymore when I saw Monahan lose it
Quote:
Monahan is wearing an “A” tonight. Is that new? I can’t remember him having it before.
Quote:
Money trying to hold it together.
We are here for you brother.
Gaudreau family, we are here for you too.
Quote:
Man. Meredith should be at home in Columbus with the game on tv as the team is on a road trip. Rest of the Gaudreau fam should be at home in Jersey watching their kid go back to play in Calgary. Still can’t believe this actually happened
Quote:
I am prepared to ugly cry again tonight lol
Also this feels like it's going to either be the most emotionally subdued game ever or an absolute ####show picking up where Friday left off and I'm a little concerned i can't tell which haha
Quote:
I really hope they broadcast everything being done for Johnny and Matthew!
Quote:
Watching the pregame and I love that Dean gives Torts so much credit for inviting Guy to practice.
He and Torts are really quite similar in a lot of ways, even if Torts tries really hard to hide thar he cares just as much about his players haha
Quote:
I just hate seeing Guy crying. It crushes me ):
Quote:
It’s so nice to see Guddy, him and Boone coming with on the trip says a lot
Quote:
Still just feels like a horrible nightmare a lot of the time. Can’t understand how they feel, hope they get true solace in seeing how many people the brothers impacted; along with these memory nights.
Still shouldn’t be ####ing happening, don’t drink and drive.. anyone.. ever.
Quote:
Calgary thank you, that was beautiful and positive and I appreciate how it was clearly handled that way so the family and players didn't have another night like opening night that just floored everybody.
That said Jake Bean coming over to check on Mere and Lars of all people trying to hold it together broke me a lil.
Love for the entire Gaudreau family.
Love for Matt.
Love for Johnny.

Beautiful goal. To bad it didn’t count.

that was reallly offsides lol

Almost like the refs could’ve called it when it happened vs getting bailed out by tech again

Offside challenge one of the worst things to happen to the NHL.

The embellishment on that lmao

Yeah I though the same lmao. Kadri makes it hard for me to root for him sometimes

Kadri should have starred in Wicked

Definitely a little hold, but the Embellishment on that was just ridiculous

Ok, so no penalties on Calgary but we broke a stick with no movement and we get slashing I thought you needed a slashing movement, or any movement with the stick to call slashing...

Provorov didn’t even try to play D there smh
Quote:
Someone should show the team our PK percentage and where we rank in the league. Maybe that'll encourage guys to stop taking ####ing penalties.

Holy #### fix the god dam penalty kill this is ridiculous

Just going through the motions. We look like we don’t want to be there.

Playing Flat. Pick it up.

Having a dog #### PK and taking a ton of penalties every game is not a good combo me thinks

Calgary in December and yet one more Johnny memorial to rip the scab open. I wouldn't want to be there either.

Full Chamber, No trigger

C'mon boys , 6 shots is not ideal .

Lucky to still be in this one. I get its an emotional night but you cannot go 40 minutes with less than 10 shots on goal

Yeah. 6 shots in 30 minutes isn't great.
Quote:
Hard to score when we don't shoot. C'mon boys.
Quote:
Jeepers. We’re whiffing on everything tonight pretty badly.
Quote:
They don’t have a shot on goal all period
Quote:
Ten minutes into the period and zero shots by CBJ
Quote:
Still at 0 shots for the period?
Quote:
Need some shots on net. No real sustained offensive zone possession this period.
Quote:
We have been stuck at 6 shots on goal for quite a while now not exactly a winning formula
Quote:
We haven’t had a shot on goal in 20 minutes
Quote:
3 whole shots that whole period. And it took a powerplay to get any of those shots and sustained pressure. Dean better rip them a new one in this intermission because that was just straight-up embarrassing.
Quote:
Can I send them some coffee or something?
Bahler rips another PP goal
Quote:
Lmao THAT call was the icing on the cake for these refs
Quote:
That’ll do it.
Quote:
I don’t really blame CBJ for being flat right now, I’m not really sure how these players are handling multiple memorial ceremonies this season at this point.
Edit: counting it all up, the Columbus candle light vigil, they had the memorials before every pregame, the memorial at the opening night in Minnesota, the big one they did at Nationwide, and this one. That’s a lot for one group of guys.

Penalty kill is officially a problem
When can I start to worry about Fantilli’s slump? Yes I know the “sophomore slump” is a thing but still, this is not who we saw last year.
Quote:
If you have a bottom 5 penalty kill in the NHL, logically you might wanna try and not give away too many penalties.
This is a major problem that needs addressing.
A very beautiful tribute at the beginning and it was great to see the Gaudreau family together; and Meredith did some amazing interviews if you guys wanna check them out.
13/21 forever. Goodnight
Quote:
Good games yall
Quote:
Good news: We have allowed a combined 1 even-strength goals in our last two games (and it was an empty netter).
Bad news: We took a combined 10 penalties in those games and only killed half of them.
Quote:
Seems like one of them games where just about nothing is going the jackets way.
Quote:
Too many penalties. Too many penalties. Too many penalties.
Quote:
Late game penalties. Amazing
Quote:
I mean seriously. We are 26th in the NHL in PK. We don’t have a good enough PK to tank all these penalties. And once again we’re punished for it. Figure it out

Why are we so trash on the road?

This has been an incredibly frustrating game to watch. Looks like the 2022-23 jackets. No chemistry.

What an absolutely embarrassing game

That was upsetting to watch. I hope Dean can rally them and we can win another on this road trip.

goosebumps on the johnny hockey chant with a minute left.

I’m happy for the Flames fans that they got to see a victory after such an emotional night. This was their night to celebrate Johnny and I’m sure his family was glad to be in an arena full of positivity.
Quote:
This was the Flames 13th win in their 13th home game. And Guy Gaudreau was named their #1 star. Not happy with the way the jackets played, but the hockey gods (and Johnny) had a bigger point to make tonight

#### sucks, but Calgary is my 2nd team after the losses we both faced. I always want us to win, but if we lose I’d rather it be to Johnny’s former team than anyone else. These ones will always be emotional for me.
Shutout Blame Game
Quote:
Shutout as many times this season as we did all last season and playoffs.
But the offense isn't a concern.
Quote:
Shutout for the 4th time this year. Shutout 3 times through 82 games last year. Blame our goalie for giving up 1 goal though lol.

Got to get in the hard areas and score. Thats it. None of this pass, pass perimeter ####.

I’ve complained about the Country Club entitlement on this team many times
Meanwhile your boy Skinner can do no wrong.
We are not the same
Quote:
Should we count all the ridiculously low sv% games we have had in 25 games and say “BuT thE IssUe is OffEncE”
Skinner has played acceptable hockey for a week this season.
Quote:
I mean scoring a goal shouldn't be too much to ask for a team with Cup aspirations.
Quote:
This team is a massive failure compared to on paper. Ironically the “weakest” on paper part of the team is actually performing fairly well in comparison (the defense).
They need one of these coaches to coach the dip#### dipsydoodle out of them and play an actually challenging offensive game more often
And get a goalie
Quote:
Can't remember the last time we won against Vegas with Skinner in net. Also, they need to stop with this perimeter bull****
Quote:
One soft ass goal, is what did us in game 7 of the finals by this sieve. Just like one soft ass goal given up by Skinner in this one.
Should be a 0-0 game heading into 3 on 3.
No championship pedigree. Until you get championship type players in key positions.

Why does SN keep gaslighting us on ####ter?

Not the greatest hockey, but Hockey Gods did the right thing tonight. Flames back in the win column, all that was missing was seeing Monny score 1, as it would have been surreal to see the fans cheer for him.
Beautiful tribute, the second I heard George Canyons slow rendition, my tears started flowing. Monahan barely holding it together made me bawl. And this was all preceded by Meredith's interview w Wes Gilbertson, talking about her memories of being in Calgary w Johnny. Then to cap it with the 1st star... Flames organization, full marks for a touching night that gives us fans some amount of closure by being able to celebrate Johnny's and Matthews life w their family present.
I hope it also gives the family and friends a stepping stone to move forward. I mentioned in the original Johnny thread, but from experience, they will never get over what happened. But what will happen is they will start to remember good memories, and new memories like one tonight, that will start to build a happier foundation for them to move forward.
This picture sums up the night for me though. It made the flood works come out again after I saw it.
