You talking about those 2 division titles?

I see this team having a hot start, everyone panicking about the draft pick, before the wheels come off after Christmas as the l9ng season wears them down. A few players leave at the TDL dropping us further in the standings to a bottom 10 pick, everyone breathes a sigh of relief.

It’s probably a combination of the preseason and being excited about the young players on the team but the more I look at the roster, the more I think they won’t be a bottom 5 team this year.

There are just too many really bad teams that are still essentially in the bottoming out phase of their rebuilds. Chicago, Anaheim, San Jose, and Columbus all fall into that category. And I think Seattle looks, on paper, to be a worse team than the flames. I think Washington is on its way down and could be in the mix for a bottom five finish as early as this season. I also think the islanders are looking worse year over year and could be in that mix as well.

I personally think the flames will be better than all those teams. It’s tough to say with Utah, Buffalo, Ottawa and Montreal. I think those teams should improve and be better than Calgary but we’ve been saying that for a while.

Ohhh this looks like a lineup that will really struggle against the top teams but with enough interest that I will watch

Add in a few injuries this season (Shags already hurt) and will easily solidify a bottom 5 pick!

I don’t care if they lose a lot. Please be entertaining and watchable. There’s nothing worse than watching your favourite team play a boring game lol.

Agreed. Lose a lot of games 5-4, get that top 3 pick, and I'll be happy.

Regardless of whether any of them contend, that's a lot of rookies on the roster on opening night.

I thought Coronato at first, but I think you are right. He is not Calder eligible.

I am eagerly hovering over my plate of Crow waiting to chow down over Honzek. Make me do it!

My mistake. I thought Coronato was Calder eligible, can't believe he played 34 games last year.

The Pacific Division looking to be the weakest doesn't help the Flames. The Flames finish 23rd in the league and pick 11th after two teams leap ahead of them after the lottery.

That would be Montreal picking 11th nah?

That would be the worst case scenario, since MTL would get that pick.

Even worse, the flames finishing second last, getting the 2nd overall pick and still giving it to MTL because Florida finished bottom 10

I think even worse is if Florida ends up having a terrible year and they end up providing the 3rd overall pick while the flames end up with a later pick without making the playoffs… in that scenario I think Montreal gets the Florida pick and the flames keep their own pick.

Floridas pick is top 10 protected. If Florida ends up with the third overall pick, they keep it and Calgary’s pic goes to Montreal as long as it’s not first overall terrible situation for the flames however unlikely.

Discussion around those conditions just raises my blood pressure a little. Can't understand the desperation to swap out Monahan for Kadri that you couldn't have simply negotiated that Montreal gets the lesser of the two picks.

Florida out of the playoffs in the top 10 is nightmare fuel. I think I might be cheering for them this season as much as I was in the finals.
