"Okay Tyson...your job is going to be to block shots."

- "How many shots?"

"Indeed. Lets have that be a little competition shall we?"

Minnesota actually got a 5th and a drafted 7th prospect for Calen Addison. So I guess anything is possible.

Marc Andre Bergeron was traded a few times for a 3rd round pick. I'd be okay with that. If he has a good season, I can see him bringing back more.

Why was this not a league min deal?

Why does it matter?

It was rumored the Flames would sign him for a slightly higher AAV if he made the team.

Does it matter that much? The Flames have a ton of cap space and by the deadline it will be negligible. And Barrie has played over 800 games and has over 500 points; last year may have been a bit rough for him, but vets usually get another chance.

Yeah...cash is something we've got craploads of.

And, as others have suggested, we're likely just buying assets.

You sign Barrie for...whatever, we've got tons of cap room, and you ship him off at the deadline to someone desperate and voila! You just created an asset out of essentially nothing!

It would be interesting if you could simply buy and sell draft picks in exchange for salary space without going through this charade. I think it would decrease the time of teams dominating or tanking.

The real win and the reason they signed him is to hopefully help Kuzmenko and Mantha pad their stats. It wasn't for the return for him.

2nd round picks are sold in the NBA. Usually around 2M

Because he said be wanted more than that the day he got here, and quite likely could've gone somewhere else for the minimum.

Here he is making an extra 30%/$300k.

Suggests to me that there was likely interest elsewhere so they paid a bit of a top up to beat out the scavengers.

Yeah. And if it was allowed in the NHL, I think it would be pretty interesting. A losing team could simply announce that they'll buy a 1st round pick for a starting bid of $5M of cap space and then all the fans of contending teams would be on them to do it.

There could be a rule set up where you have to fill up the space within 7 days or something so the NHLPA would be supportive rather than allowing the unused space go to waste.

It doesn’t count against the cap. It’s just a straight cash transaction.

That’s just a more complicated version of what we have now.

Can't see the PA signing off on that; nothing in it for them.

Glad to hear it. I'm for most ideas that separate GMs with the ability to think from those who lack it.

One way to have a 2015 style find a way flames run is to have a very dangerous power play and that is what Barrie will help with.

Another team in the Pacific was offering him a contract as well. He chose Calgary.
