I thought it was 12 EST. Is it different for preseason?

You're technically correct. It was.
It's now 2 EST because east execs didn't like it happening while they ate their bologna sandwich and checked their Facebook, and west coasters weren't in the office yet due to their 2 hour commute.

Whew. Didn't understand taking the risk when could have waived Hanley. Think Sol has progressed great and could be physical bottom pair guy to complement our more offensive-minded D. Seemed like a very good team guy too.
Didn't really think we needed Barrie either, can't imagine return at deadline being more than a 3rd.
Anyway, very happy worked out.

Yeah I'm not as concerned about getting Brustewicz or Grushnikov in on opening night, but was worried about losing Solovyov in the process.
Now happy to sign Barrie.

There was no risk. Not a chance somebody was picking him up for a regular roster spot with almost zero nhl experience. As others have said every team already has a solo yob in their system.

Record was too clean for Bumonton, I reckon.
He might've been the #5 there by November.

It was a strategic waive...now he is exempt for 30 days
and what would be wrong with a free 3rd from a playoff bound team?

I wonder if GMs communicate with each other about certain players on waivers. Like for instance Solo just had a kid and moving would be hard on his family. I wonder if there's a code or silent agreement or something that would allow GMs waive and not worry about another team claiming based on players situations. Or if a claim is going to be made, it allows the current team to let the player know before hand.

I often wonder if some of these "future considerations" we see in trades are used in scenarios like this.

From all the other teams? I doubt it. They would spend all their waking hours dealing with this.
He was not claimed because no one wanted him guaranteed a spot on their roster.
Where is Solo living? Because he just got assigned to Stockton.

Not saying they won't, but it's baffling to me why teams waste picks on players like this at the deadline instead of straight up signing them.
