Sucks for the Habs/Laine and possibly Reinbacher .
I also think there's there's going to be 5 really pissed off teams from the 23 draft.

Some AHL plug Pare. Looks like he's been in the AHL and ECHL since 2021, barely playing a full season. Not sure what a plug like that is doing on the ice for the Leafs. Have to feel bad for Laine.

Sabres whole regular team is in Europe already so tonight was like a weird C-team, lol.
Every year there’s bad injuries in preseason, and often precipitated by some nobody who will never play an NHL game. one has to wonder how long it will be until it’s like the NFL where nobody bothers playing their starters in the preseason anymore because of it.

I buy into the models that suggest you need at least 5 stars to be a contender.
Which is also why we may be in for a long re-build in Calgary.
I think at this stage they have 1 or 2 potential stars (Parekh and Wolf) though there's a couple others w/ potential. But they need to bottom out to draft at least 2 more this year and next.

I can’t find 5 star players on the rosters of 3 of the last 5 Stanley cup winners:
Stars and friends:
FLA - Barkov, Tkachuk, Bobrobsky (Ekblad, Verhaege?)
VGK - Eichel, Marchessault, Stone (Pietrangelo, Quick??)
TBL - Kucherov, Point, Hedman, Vasilevsky, Stamkos
TBL - ^^Ditto
WSH - Backstrom, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Holtby (Oshie, Kuznetsov?)
Star is subjective but the guys in brackets would be a stretch. Very good players but no on the star from me. Oshie would be the closest.
And for laughs, the 2024 oilers:
EDM - McDavid, McDavids acne, McDavids suit style sweatpants, Bouchards left eye (and only the left one), Evander Kanes AADAC sponsor.

That's a suspension you almost have to take though.
A rival team player who is an AHL guy who will likely never sniff the NHL throws a dirty knee on a guy who has looked like he could have found his game as a star again this preseason.
Feel terrible for Laine TBH

Watching the replay of the Laine hit and I have switched from thinking it was a cheap shot to now thinking Laine was at fault.
Dude tries to split the D in a wide stance without moving his legs. Did he expect to pass through unopposed? Did he not think he needs to move his feet? Dude planted himself, rigid legs, and got hit . Not a high IQ play from his perspective.

Rasmus is our best defenseman and Huberdeau once had 115 points. Neither are “stars”.

Reinhardt had 57 goals last year. Huberdeau was considered a star when we traded for him.
Andersson is likely the 2nd best dman on one of the worse teams in the league.
Forsling is a Stanley Cup winner's best dman.

Bouchard is a Stanley cup finalists best defenceman and the guy can’t defend lol. Not a star.
Reinhart has had one very good season and a bunch of good ones. Him hitting 57 goals again next year is just as likely as him hitting 57 points. Not a star.

lol Forsling is the best shutdown dman and produces offence. I’d say he’s a star. It’s not just about points.
Scott Neidermayer was putting up 40 points in New Jersey shutting down top players and winning cups. Was he just ok or a star?

It not even a penalty IMO...I get that they are mad about the reault but the dman is just trying to do his job

I don’t think I’d take Forsling over any of those guys. He’s very good but no star. Who does he beat out for top 5? That’s a pretty silly projection.
