I would never buy a Tesla, but hard to get upset with someone who does - we all buy products and services from reprehensible human beings and corporations.
But defending Musk as a bastion of free speech is delusion on a whole other level.

The Model Y was the best selling car last year out of all cars, gas and electric. It's also received the highest safety rating of any car. But hey, I guess you and your panel gaps know better
Enron became the largest seller of natural gas in North America by 1992...

A lot of questionable views in here because Musk is a ######bag. Tesla builds a very good vehicle that employs some really good technology. The leader of the company is ####e, but the vehicles are very good, with some obvious challenges because of infrastructure and climate (BTW, ICE engines are no scream in hell in cold weather either). It's too bad that Musk is such an idiot because 1.99% on a vehicle like the model Y is a pretty good deal. I still wouldn't buy a Tesla as an EV because of Musk, but that 1.99%, and the drop in cost of the vehicle itself, would be attractive.
I would echo what some have said in this thread about possible alternatives. The Volvo product is outstanding and the Polestar is a tremendous vehicle for anyone who lives in an urban or bedroom community environment. Eith the Volvo or Polestar product will leave those who make a purchase pretty happy. Beautiful cars, especially for those who want to transition between ICE and EV vehicles.

Just my opinion, but Tesla is stagnating right now while others catch up. When I bought my Tesla in 2020 it felt leaps and bounds ahead of competitors in terms of the technology. You have a CEO that keeps overpromising and underdelivering, so I don't think my next vehicle will be a Tesla. Rivian R2 is currently promising for my next ride though.
Completely agree. Tesla is not really doing much to improve their product lie while others innovate. Teslas look dated IMO, but they are still leader in the market regardless of resting on their laurels. I would recommend other products, but Teslas are still a quality product that you wouldn't go wrong buying. Musk drives me away from the product line, but they are still a very good product and leader in their vertical.

Guy on my hockey team has a Rivian and swears by it. I’d take a look at those for sure.
Self drive sure would be nice. I tend to think it would save a lot of lives. It’s just there are so many bad drivers, not that the tech is mindbending. Drunks, or teen boys, or distracted cell phone addicts, road ragers…
the Tesla Model Y is the best EV I have driven. Albiet the Genesis G80 was the only other one. Genesis gets better interior marks but the Model Y is just a better EV.
All that said I would never get an EV, get a hybrid. I am in LA with a hybrid and for all the climate finger wags and lots more people with hybrid, there are like zero convenient stations anywhere. Yet tge gas milage in my rental is still awesome on 1% battery.
Long and short get a hybrid. The f-150 hybrid is an amazing one at 1.99 for example
Tesla's biggest problem is they run too much like a cost optimizing algorithm. This means they continually refine and reduce their costs, with little concern to function. They removed parking sensors to save cash, thinking cameras were just as good. They are not. They removed turn stalks to replace them with capacitive buttons, because they are cheaper cheaper. Well it also sucks.
Every part of their vehicle is manged this way, they actually have a scoreboard for it. So while it's great for capitalism, it makes for a pretty boring thing to be in.

I’ve sat in my fair share of Teslas and it is just that inescapable “cheap” feeling that is hard to get over. Aside from the absurd screen, everything feels like it’s a part of a cheap toy. The feel and look of the materials, the design of the interior (and exterior), and the sound everything makes… it all reads “cheap.”
When Kia and Hyundai feel like luxury vehicles in comparison there’s probably an issue worth addressing.
