I want Vegas to make the playoffs and have a long run that absolutely drains them. They bring back the same team, and they absolutely crater the next season.

I hate that Askarov didn't end up out East. Seems like a decent move for the Sharks if Askarov is as good as advertised.

Sharks may have got the best player in the deal, but I really like Edstrom- who has stood out in a very positive way every time I’ve seen him up against his peers internationally. He’s a big C with some power, and a nice two way game. He’s going to be an excellent middle-6 center.

For better or worse it is more than the Flames or the Bruins got for their goalies. Not sure if that makes it a good or bad trade for the Sharks but it is just a fact.

Vegas did lose some players in the off season including their leading goal scorer. I doubt it's a top 10 pick, but you can't say it won't be for sure either.

Edstrom was a 1st in a deep draft, tons of good goalies out there. I like that they went out and got him, but they paid a bit too much for a guy that requested a trade
The fact he requested a trade is largely irrelevant.

When you have a very sought after asset, no one cares why you are trading him.

There were multiple teams wanting him, that ensured a top value going back.

I wonder if this means Vanecek will be going to the AHL?

Any good team builds from the net out. You gotta solidify that goaltending position to have any chance.

Sharks are going to be very, very good in the coming years.

Speaking (hypothetically) about young promising goaltenders, I wonder what the Sharks would've given up for the hometown kid?

I like this deal for the Preds, I don't think nearly as highly as some do of his game here.

Probably a good trade for both teams.

Nashville doesnt need him, and was a luxury with Saros. They can continue to find journeymen back ups during Saros contract. Selling a luxury for some medium/long term support is really nice.

SJ gets a well developed goalie who potentially be a core piece for them. They lose some good assets but weren't critical to the direction they are going.

Both teams trading their "non-critical" assets to each other in a pretty solid hockey trade.

Askarov is 22 years old and has a cap hit of only $2 million. Those things make him much more valuable than he would be if he were older and more expensive.

We traded a 35 year old goalie, who is starting to pile up some injuries and having yo-yo years. At least he is a established NHL goalie.

Sharks are going to have a pretty solid core to work with once they inevitably sign Draisaitl.

Flames completely fleeced NJ compared to what NSH got for a MUCH MUCH MUCH more valuable Askarov.

If so, that will be quite a core as early as one year from now - Cellebrini, Smith, Dickinson, Askarov, their top pick in the 2025 draft, Eklund and Draisaitl. Add the fact that players will want to sign there as soon as they start becoming a good team again. And they could also develop some other core pieces from the later picks. Don’t think it will take long from now for San Jose to become competitive again.

Flames retained salary too. There is no guarantee that Askarov is a top 10 goalie just because he’s the top goalie prospect. Huge price when goalies just don’t go for that much

If nothing else, this sets a precedent for Wolf's trade value, though I doubt that would happen any time soon.

The Sharks didn’t pay a top ten goalie price though. It’s not really that much more than Markstrom. Edstrom is a better add in than Bahl but the picks will probably be a wash.

Yeah, not convinced it is either. NJ wanted to go all in and didn't pay a premium for a proven, but aging commodity. It will probably be a good bang for buck trade for NJ when all is said and done. SJ is getting a great goaltending prospect which you never know if they pan out. Gibson was supposed to be the next great one. Even great goaltenders like Blackwood who showed potential early, fizzled. So SJ paid a hefty price for the best goaltending prospect but who really knows if it'll work?
