And when you get hired into a union job you also join the union and are subject to agreements made before you were employed. This isn’t unique.

The current CBA is from 2013, not 2005, and was extended in an agreement from both sides in 2020.

"As the council continues its review of the full spectrum of NCAA eligibility rules, this proposal, focused on a singular issue, represents a pragmatic step in aligning skiing and men's ice hockey with other sports in terms of allowable preenrollment activities," said Josh Whitman, athletics director at Illinois and chair of the council.

The proposal will be considered during the council's November meeting. If approved, the proposed effective date would be Aug. 1, 2025.

I’m down in Denver right now watching my son and his assistant coach was just telling me he’s going on a full week WHL scouting trip shortly. Will be fascinating to see how this plays out. As an “NCAA” parent, I have to admit to having very petty negative thoughts about the whole thing.

Without knowing much about any of the details, it seems like this would make both the NCAA and the CHL better long-term.

That WHL players made their decision and they shouldn’t be allowed to take spots away from kids that made the decision to go to school.

Wont the NCAA fill up with junior players who have aged out of the CHL now?

Aren't most CHL players drafted at age 15-16? 2 years before they'd have a scholarship offer in front of them?

You should prepare that victim impact statement, in support of the NCAA’s class defence.

Like most things that change this will screw over a certain segment of the current (and near current) players and teams - this is why most things never change. NCAA players may get bumped for WHLers that now want to head to NCAA, and WHL teams may lose some players. Probably spells the end for the CIS, quality wise, unless Canadian Universities can somehow join NCAA.

I know SFU is an NCAA team (for some reason).

Ultimately opening up the choice options for young adults is a good thing IMO. Especially if that means more access to school.
