Whaaa???

I thought it was just an atrocious tasting drink and that there was some anger about them owning multiple clubs and moving players around?

The Austrians? Are you sure?

why? I think it's hilarious that all the Klopp fanboys who thought he was the pious upholder of traditional football are up in arms. But this doesn't move the needle for me one way or the other.

nah, people are 100% pissed because they think Red Bull is the absolute worst of the football world ... they stand for everything that is loathed by the typical German football supporter. In Germany, football fans are definitely more triggered by Red Bull than they are by clubs like PSG or Man City. And again, many people thought Klopp was different. Someone who hated those modern constructs as well, someone who believed in tradition. A football romantic, someone who "gets it". Someone of us. And now it turns out that everyone has a price, even Jürgen. This is a "you were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them" moment for a lot of football fans.

It really has nothing to do with Red Bull, the company. I also wouldn't call them a trash company per se, I think it's much more nuanced. For example, they have invested a lot of money and energy in funding research to combat illnesses like MS. On the other hand, it's unfortunately true that they have supported right wing views as well. For example, they have funded a TV channel in Austria that has given that #### a bit of a platform, which was especially problematic during the pandemic.

Klopp has been in advertisements for some weird pyramid scheme companies over in Germany so I don’t think he’s bothered by it and maybe (probably) people shouldn’t be surprised by this

My personal thought is he saw how football teams operate in England and thought it’s a great model and wanted to join the only club in Germany that does something similar /s

Again, this will all be forgiven and forgotten by 99% of Germans when he’s leading them at the 2028 Euros

I think you could say I’m a Klopp fanboy since before his time at Dortmund but I personally don’t care one way or the other on this. I’m too far removed from Germany itself to have that strong of feelings on Red Bull and the 50+1. Everyone in football is ultimately in it for themselves, fans are nothing

by the way, there's a lot of reports in German media that Klopp already agreed to the Red Bull deal back in 2022. Oh, Jürgen ...

They are a pretty decent company, when it comes to support for their action sports athletes.

I didn't like the new format when it was released and I do miss the old group stage but this one is growing on me. A positive (and I believe unintended) consequence of the change is that lower ranked teams have a genuine shot of at least making the first knockout round. Teams like Celtic and Brest are in with a shout (or more) of advancing because they are able to play teams around their level.

This is a good point, Brest just earned a draw against Leverkusen which is not nothing...

Barcelona having quite the week. Beat Bayern 4-0 in UCL and then beat Real Madrid 4-0 in El Classico.

Hansi Flick is cooking!

A lot of drama surrounding the Ballon D’or ceremony. Real Madrid refusing to attend due to it being leaked that Rodri won. Real Madrid are rumoured to be upset as they believe Dani Car###al should win it if based on the same criteria that will see Rodri winning it (national team success and Club Success).Car###al scored in the UCL final and Euro final so I actually do see the argument. I don’t have a problem with Rodri winning it, he definitely was deserving in the past for even better seasons. I would still have voted for Vini based on his champions league and La Liga performances but seems like Brazils national teams disfunction and his lack of performance at Copa America hurt his award chances.

There is also underlying tension between UEFA and Perez, due to Perez trying to create the super league. This is the first year UEFA has played a role in deciding who wins the Ballon D’or.

Definitely the most drama surrounding one of these award shows in a while

Edit: don’t know why it’s not letting me type Car###al haha
