Only time will tell
It is somewhat interesting to note that Savoie only had 9 more points during his draft year than a guy like Luke Misa did whom we drafted 150th overall. Yes, I know that's not all that matters, but they are both undersized point producing centers.

Clearly Buffalo has soured on him. Will be interesting to see how he makes out.

But for Savoie, it's a dream trade because Edmonton will give him a roster spot no matter how he plays.

Oh, it all makes sense now. They're just trying to save money on nameplates. That's why they got another Brown and another Skinner. Now they have all these Savoie ones that won't get used since they let Carter go.

Any other Foegele's and Desharnais' they can bring in?

The Oilers will probably do to Savoie what they did to Yamamoto. And Holloway.

If I am an Oilers fan I am wanting Jeff Jackson to take the GM role full time. Oilers having a solid offseason

Oilers didn't qualify brother Carter this year. Lol

I'm not sure this trade is as big of a steal as 9th overall would imply.

McLeod brings some pretty good qualities at the NHL level. Just lacks killer instinct. Sometimes a trade can wake a guy up.

Savoie brings scoring and only scoring. As a small guy who is quick but not fast that can fail to translate well to the NHL level.

Even if the Sabres had soured on Savoie, and other teams weren't all enamored, surely they could have maybe gotten more. But I think McLeod is getting a little underrated, understandably. Pretty decent production for a bottom-six guy, and Buffalo does need NHLers.

Would you have traded Coronato for McLeod? That’s a similar value imo

Ya I mean obviously good numbers. Matthew Phillips had eye watering junior numbers and AHL numbers. His game could not translate. Savoie is an inch taller than Phillips and may have similar issues translating his game to the NHL.

If what Pronman speculated is correct before the draft, he was not valued highly throughout the league. It’s a strange trade at first glance for sure but maybe not as big of a slam dunk as it seems.

I mean the Sabres could be a dysfunctional mess and royally screwed up here or they are aware of things we are not.

Nope. But Adams appears to be drunk. Gives up a 2nd rounder for a 4th line guy in Malenstyn when he could have waited a couple days and signed 1 for free. Washington, who traded Malenstyn, signed Brandon Duhaime for free.

But while Savoie had a great year and looked good in the AHL, his progression isn't assured. So the trade looks like theft now, but maybe they know something about Savoie.

Or maybe their idiots. We'll find out.

Sure, McLeod for Savoie one for one looks like a laugher.

But the Sabres also got the great, the magnificent… er…

Ty Tullio!

Never mind.

I was thinking the same thing but if the rest of the league doesn't value him either, he more than likely is not trade bait at the deadline. They will have to wait on him or give him away like Buffalo did.
