Is Columbus over cap? If not I don't understand why they would pay to get rid of Laine. I'm sure if they are 50% cap hit they could trade him and that net contract for a 3rd

The player and team are looking to part ways.

They aren't going to pay to get rid of him, but they are going to most likely trade him for pennies on the dollar.

Jesus Christ there are a lot of gambling commercials on TSN. I haven't been in the US that long and the difference is jarring. It's like every other commercial.

The Vegas Golden Knights lost Marchessault (Nashville), Stephenson (Seattle), Carrier (Carolina), Martinez (Chicago) and Anthony Mantha (Calgary). I do wonder how they will do in 2026.

They've got limited prospect/draft capital to trade and limited cap space
They idea that they could start to decline, and bottom out in a couple years, is not impossible.

The unprotected 1st could be the most valuable thing Conroy got at the deadline.

Especially if they don't have the cap for Theodore and mcnabb next off season. Love to have that as a lottery pick.

Agreed. That unprotected first round pick has huge potential value in the coming years.

The only potential save for the Knights’ future is that I could see them getting LTIR-relief and using that cap space to sign some new star players in free agency - especially because they are a desired destination for lots of players. I could see Stone LTIR-retiring as early as next summer, Pietrangelo as early as the summer of 2026 and Eichel as early as the summer of 2027.

The potential cap space from them retiring could be used to sign Draisaitl and/or McDavid… saving them from bottoming out.

Luke Gazdic is hard to watch. Asks Tanev where he is eating dinner tonight and asks if "armdog and I can join". Tanev is normally dry and quite anyway, but his mostly nonresponse response was hilarious.

It’s funny how these deals all come together early in the morning of the first day of free agency. It’s almost as though tampering rules are treated as a joke and these signings are mostly sorted out days in advance.

There are still several interesting free agents out there:
C: Roslovic
RW: Tarasenko, Sprong, Nylander, Yamamoto
LD: Kylington, Brannstorm, Schmidt
RD: Boqvist

I would take a flyer on Nylander, if wanting to sign a low-budget 'show me' one-year deal.

Wow, I hadn't noticed that Sprong broke out the last couple of years.

46 and 43 points the last two seasons.

He's a speedster too IIRC

I wonder what his ask is on a contract...

Definitely wouldn't more than a year or two. He screams Mason Raymond to me on a 4-5 year deal

I am absolutely stoked on the work Conroy has done over the last five days. Terrific draft, fiscally responsible free agent strategy, we haven't had this in a LONG time.

I've never thought of Sprong as being fast. Big shot, though.

Would welcome him or Nylander for sure.

Guys like Sprong/Nylander need PP time and offensive opportunities. Not sure I'm a fan of giving them that on this team.

Really? As I see it, there's still one open PP spot:

Sharangovich - Kadri - Huberdeau
Kuzmenko - D

Mantha - Zary - Coronato
???????? - D
