They have nobody to shelter him so it wouldn't matter.

Why? Not like he's that good where you'd have to worry. He'd instantly make then worse defensively.

Jeez you guys sound like jilted lovers in here.
Yea, I thought he should owe some sort of loyalty to the Flames too. But it's also a business, and he's a prospective employee looking for the best deal.
So flames have their stance, probably low balling, expecting some sort of loyalty. Maybe not, but who knows
Kylington is a prospective employee who owes it to himself to see his value outside of the only organization he knows.
And the tweets and comments made don't sound disparaging on either side. Putting it in business talk, Prospective Employee A is keeping his options open, and not taking the deal on the table from Company A. There is nothing in the releases and comments that say talks have irrevocably broken down.

He owes us nothing. Calgary in winter can be a depressing place, so good for him if he can land a deal in a city with better weather.

I'm curious as to what the Flames are offering that makes him want to explore free agency. My guess is a short term show me contract and Kylington is looking for more stability.
His choice and right to go to market but optics look bad considering how accommodating the club was with his situation. I honestly thought this would be an easy deal so a bit disappointed that he isn't already signed. Hopefully just a negotiating tactic by his agent.

Headscratcher for sure.
I'm of the mind it's completely in your right to do so. Also of the mind if you do, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

As someone who has battled mental health issues their entire life, and comes from a family of it (some with MUCH worse battles than myself), I have issues with this. They were very loyal to you. Mental health issues are real, and need to be treated on par with physical issues....they're also not a free pass. I completely disagree with his decision.

Gotta admit, not impressed if he walks.
His right for sure, but a bit of a slap in the face.
At the same time, while he's a decent player, I don't think losing him will be that big of a deal if he signs elsewhere.

Just always felt like an outsider from it, I value understanding. SO many people don't, it's a poopy feeling. I feel like the Flames did. I'm a loyal person, I value loyalty. That's it. Sorry if it's coming off wrong, just how I feel.

I’m not happy about this, given everything that Shilly and Calgary have been through together, but it’s sports so this is bound to happen.
Still rather have Shilly in Flames silks for another 3-4 years.

Sucks, but there’s no loyalty required by either side. Hope it works out for him.
I hope when he finds that no competent GM will give a player who spent 18 months on leave a long term deal, that the Flames have already moved on and filled his role.
I think there are better solutions in the system, especially if he doesn’t really want to be here.

Oh shut up. It's a contract negotiation, they couldn't agree to one[yet]. Get over it

Im thinking Conroy and crew dont care if he walks. I think he is playing a losing game here, as without question come Monday at 10AM those guys will be talking to other vet dmen and will almost 100% sign one or 2 of them.
That may leave Kylington on the outside looking in and if he doesnt have a lot of interest elsewhere because of the last couple years, he may cost himself a starting spot in the NHL...period.
Im fine if he leaves as he was nothing more than a meh defender that looks like there could be more but may never materialize.
Sort of a Valimaki feeling.

I am on the kylington has no leverage and doesn't owe any loyalty...but how much more respect does one have for people and organizations that show it..
