he is 13th in pts in the playoffs with 3-13-16 in 10 games
meanwhile, Gridin is 2nd in the Q, and Morin is 2nd among defensemen
Flames prospects killing it everywhere

Ahead of Becckett Senecke who he also scored more points than in the regular season. Senecke was drafted 3rd overall last year by the Ducks, they could have had Demidov, Parekh or Buium. Like wtf Anaheim?

this was like the BJs and Dubois. There is no way we would have gotten Parekh if the Ducks stuck to the board.

Several things had to fall Calgary's way.
- Ducks taking Sennecke
- CBJ taking Lindstrom
- Utah taking Iginla (I know a lot of people wanted him here but Zayne is just a better prospect in my view, and was at the draft.)
- Ottawa taking Yak (this is the most egregious I would argue. Just a baffling decision to take Yak over Parekh, Buium, or Dickinson)
- Seattle taking Catton
Basically those are the 5 picks that had to fall Calgary's way for Zayne to drop.
In my view a re-draft looks like this:
1. SJ: Celebrini
2. Chicago: Demidov
3. Anaheim: Sennecke (loaded on D, they still take the F)
4. CBJ: Buium
5. Montreal: Parekh
6. Utah: Levshunov
7. Ottawa: Iginla
8. Seattle: Dickinson
9. Calgary: Catton

This feels like the Tkachuk draft. Sennecke threw the draft board off, and Ottawa taking Yak.
Calgary had a 3 way trade worked out to jump up to #3 and take Tkachuk but at the draft floor it came out that CBJ was taking Dubois and threw the draft board off, and Vancouver taking Julovi.
I think Calgary looked into trading up in this draft, and you have wonder if it was for Zayne.

I believe they had 3 targets: Iginla, Catton and Zayne.
Not sure in what order.

The way Gridin and Battaglia are carrying their teams this playoffs is very encouraging. A 2025 draft even half as good as the last two will set this franchise up for years.

If it was a trade up maybe it was Iginla, just a guess.
We got lucky, but so have other teams who have taken Hughes and Makar.

Some luck but you still have to pick the right guy, and there were still valid non Zayne choices in that area.
Zayne was ranked 8th in Bob's final list.
Guys ranked ahead that went after Zayne (thereby being guys Calgary could have easily taken instead): Silayev & Dickinson. Then you have Helenius who was 9th on Bob's list.
Obviously there is still a lot to play out, but at this stage, Zayne looks like the right pick if that group (though all are strong prospects).
In our own CP voted rankings, Parekh was #6.
I suspect he would be #2 or #3 now.
June 20th Results:
1. Celebrini (not voted)
2. Demidov 0
3. Levshunov 0
4. Buium 0
5. Lindstrom +4
6. Parekh -1
7. Iginla -1

Scouting has been strong for this team.
Hopefully we have the same luck in identifying a center now.
In a redraft I take Zayne #2 overall. Demidov looks like he will be a fun player, but Zayne is like having a #1 center on the backend.

If my team had Demidov, I would not trade him for Zayne. I'd be chanting his name and making fun of Chicago for taking Levshunov ahead of him. I'd also not trade Iginla for Zayne if I had Iginla. For nostalgia and also as a legitimate prospect.
I'd go Celebrini, Demidov, Tij, Parekh/Catton (interchangeable).

I'm quite sure that the Flames were looking to trade up to take Puljujarvi. At the time, Puljujarvi was looking like a world beater and the 'clear' no.3. We were also desperate for a RW with speed and size. Once Edmonton found out that Columbus was going to take Dubois, they said no to trading the pick because they wanted Puljujarvi. Vancouver wanted Dubois very badly. Flames lucked out.
As for last year, from the comments, Flames tried hard to trade up to take Demidov, but MTL wouldn't budge. They then tried hard to trade up to take Tij, but Utah wouldn't budge. They were expecting and wanted Catton, but he got taken (surprisingly) the pick before, so they took the next guy on their list - Parekh, which looks like we lucked out again.
I'm not sure if this means that Catton was clearly above Parekh or not, but due to positional need, they were prepared to take Catton.
Note - this isn't insider information. It's just what I deduced from all the interviews and reactions I watched multiple times after the draft.

lol @ Tij ahead of Parekh.
its Celebrini/Demidov as 1A/B and then Parekh/Buium. Tij would drop in a redraft.
