I think centers have value. As bad as he's been this year, he has 13 goals and is on pace for about 20.

He's already retained at 4M. One more retain brings him down to 2.5M, which for a pure rental center should have some value.

If Philly is waiving him that's a different story, but I think he can be flipped next season.

And there you have it- sounds like Philly is putting him on waivers immediately.

No thanks.

There is opportunity cost to taking on Johansen that closes the door on other deals.

I'll take the deal we did all day

When you look at this trade as a whole, it confirms the Flames did fine on the Tanev trade.

Should Conroy have waited on Tanev?

I’d like to think that if this was on the table Conroy would have it.

Which is baffling. Grushnikov was ranked 11th in the Stars organization by The Athletic. And I say this thinking Grushnikov is still a decent prospect in the vein of a Yan Kuznetsov. But Kuznetsov is not worth a first round pick now. So either the Flames scouts really really really liked Grushnikov, or Conroy got short changed.

Oh hell no! That would have been a terrible return with Johansson tied to it.

It was Grushnikov and a second versus a first and an anchor contract.

It's a 2025 1st from the Avs that's top 10 protected (like that was needed).

Avs still have 4.9 in cap. Nichushkin coming back drops that once activated. They can still add.

Colorado offered this exact package for Tanev. Conroy rightfully declined.

Johansen is a largely negative piece. This is now the second team who has paid to get rid of him in a year.

I like the 25 1st over a 2nd and Grushnikov but hopefully I’m wrong

Curious as to what the Flyers do with Johansen? He does not seem like a guy Torts would love.. are they just going to bury him?

Can the Flames trade Kuznetsov and a 2nd for a 1st and a $800k cap dump?

(spoiler: no they can't)

So the Tanev return is... not great.
